Shaka (the instigator, as usual), Ragnar, and Brennus all declared war on me on the same turn, in the classical era; game over. :( I knew I should have restarted when a goodie hut revealed a gold/floodplains start at a hilled Ulundi.

I could have played this map 100x and I would lose every time. Sometimes you just face failure no matter what.

Sometimes I think the AI does this because I turn off random events now. It wants to get back at me. :D

Do you mind posting a save? I'd like to give it a shot, possibly give you some advice if I do better.

Alexander, Brennus, The Ethiopian guy (forget his name) and Monty all declared on me in one turn. The were also all bordering me, so each sent their own troops. I bailed on that game.

Asoka, Mansa Musa, Zara, Hannibal, and Ragnar.

AP voted for a crusade and I got hosed mainly by India and Mali who both began nuking me. I hadn't realized that Ragnar had the AP religion in his island cities so when I took him down the AP might vote to crush me. MM, Asoka, and to a lesser extent Zara had run away tech whoring amongst themselves and I was figuring I was going to have to nuke them out while I built to space. Unfortunately the gang bang commenced before that could happen. Ragnar was mostly dead, but Hannibal was on my flank with scads of cav (much of it immune to drill). About once per turn a new ICBM would smack into me.

Saladin, Pacal, Asoka, Ragnar, Mehmed.

I dowed Saladin and took a city, next turn he willingly vassaled to Pacal who then bribed Asoka into it. Next turn one of them bribed Ragnar into it too, Mehmed was his vassal. I think I quit very angry about that vassaling thing :p

How about...

Brennus, Izzy, Monty, Shaka, Ragnar, Mehmed, Lincoln (?!?!), Hannibal, Alexander, Julius, AND Cyrus.

Yes. AN 11-FRONT WAR.

I played it out. I lost 6 turns after the war declaration (this was in the Medieval Era).

^ was that from an AP vote?

All I Really Need to Know I Learned in KindergartenHigh School

Lesson 1: Fit in with the popular kids. If it means liking the same things, and even changing your religion, then do it.
Lesson 2: Suck up to the jocks (Shaka) who can beat you up. If they want you to give them the fruits of your hard earned studying, do it. They want your lunch money, hand it over.
Lesson 3: Pick on the weak, unpopular kids. Especially if the popular kids/jocks have it out for him, even if you've been best friends with them for a long time.

Happy civing!

Well, I did fight a war against the entire world back in Monarch Student^ Napoleon, but I didn't lose despite military and techological inferiority. That says a lot about how the AI fights in civ.

In other situations, a paltry two-civ gangbang can easily be enough to destroy you if it comes at the wrong time.

I've been ganged up on a few times, but the most recent one as China (Qin) was the most annoying, especially as it wasn't really a group thing to start with.

Monty attacked (as he does - gawd bless 'im). Once I'd taken one of his cities and told him to shut up, Alexander smells blood and invades me from the opposite end. Then once I regain the city he took, Napoleon (and his Babylonian lapdogs) decide I'm too weak to live, despite being at war with Alex himself. After his two attacking stacks are dealt with, I'm left with a single longbowman in the city he's been throwing himself against. So guess what? Monty has another pop and succeeds, AND takes back his city. It all goes a bit downhill from there, particularly when Alex decided to make peace with Boney, and a squadron of Babylonian cuirassiers finally reached my tech city.

I would've understood a religious crusade, but I just happened to be living in a world of utter {insert swear here}. Especially once I met Ragnar and Tokugawa on the other continent, who blockaded me and reduced my shipping to splinters.

I guess I'm lucky... normally AP DoWs happen to me when I'm on my own landmass, so I just lose a bunch of seafood. Worst dogpile I've had was Brennus + vassal Peter + bribed Alex + Suiliman-because-he-could. I whittled Brennus's SoD down and was beginning to pick it apart (lost much of the siege), and Peter's was laughable at best... but when Alex's and Sully's (stupid Janissaries!!) SoDs showed up, my depleted forces couldn't deal with them. They started taking cities so I just did the old ctrl-Q. Was so close to teching cannons too :(
