Whats with J-Walking being illgial?

I didn't read the bit of the thread where it turned into a dicsussion on race (I'm sure the Nazis will be along soon enough) so sorry if someone has asked this before.

I understand that there is quite a lot of opposition to laws that force you to use a seatbelt in a car. Do people who think that law is stupid also think that Jwalking is stupid too?

I dont think the seatbelt law is stupid for one reason alone.

If you get into a crash you will become a flying projectile and break through your windshield and can harm other people.

LOL could you find that story? I am guessing there is something more to it, but i am sure it would be a funny story to read in any case.

The bespectacled professor says he didn't realise the "rather intrusive young man" shouting that he shouldn't cross there was a policeman. "I thanked him for his advice and went on."

The officer asked for identification. The professor asked for his, after which Officer Leonpacher told him he was under arrest and, the professor claims, kicked his legs from under him, pinned him to the ground and confiscated his box of peppermints.

Professor Fernandez-Armesto then spent eight hours in the cells before the charges were dropped. He told the Times that his colleagues now regard him as "as a combination of Rambo, because it took five cops to pin me to the ground, and Perry Mason, because my eloquence before a judge obtained my immediate release".

How is parking in illegal places hurting anyone?

At a festival last year a motorist parked their car in an illegal spot... too close to the train tracks. Guess what happened? ;)

It was pretty loud... Granted there were only minor injuries from flying debris so I guess it didn't REALLY hurt anyone, but with a chunk of car flying through the crowd at a festival, the potential was there.
