What's your Civ 3 Achilles Heel?

Some might be selected by default.... I certainly remember setting which ones I did and didn't want to hear about.

I tend to seriously emphasize culture and building in my games. I've never been behind in culture. Ever. Unless it's a scenario, like The Rood and the Dragon, where you really can't do anything about the Irish crazy lead in culture.

Unless there are enemies pouring over my borders in a human deluge, I don't build more than a defensive army until I get to the Industrial Age.

Said army is often much larger than it needs to be.

I'm a loyal ally, and flatly refuse to RoP Rape.

On that note, I always give a formal declaration of war BEFORE violating someone's territory.

I insist on constructing huge Navies, even though the AI never does this.

I refuse to burn a city.

The only victory I ever play for is Histograph.

In addition to my previous flaws, I discovered something last night during a 100-turn practice game.

I'm too agressive.

Proof: At turn 100, I only have 5 towns. I've destroyed the Japanese, razed half of Spain, and the guys on the other continent have shown up in their galleys.

And I was Korea.

EDIT: And I was not playing 5CC.

Yah think maybe!
You made me laugh. I love this admission. wish it were true of me... sigh

Another thing I just realized: I hate razing cities. There is absolutely no game of mine where I'm not at war 75% of the time, I am simply unable to win by anything else than war, and managing, moving and attacking with troops is much better than any other strategy, for me. And in all this time, I almost never raze. If a key city flips, and I seriously considered razing it but did not, I occasionally reload and abandon. I hate getting rid of a city.

Yeah. Me too. Even when I know that the AI's culture is 10-15 times mine, I simply can't bring myself to get slaves instead of massive flip risks.
I get a bit frustrated when I do raze a city and the AI's culture is such that my units are still in enemy territory. That just slows down my entire advance.

Of course, it also means no mercy at the next city I capture, too. :trouble:

Workers. I build nowhere near as much as I need to.

Wonder addiction!!!! :crazyeye:

Usually very bad at research and army building and economy Regent and above- I'm practically a freaking 5-year old at this game, even after playing it for 2-3 years! Can't even win a fair game yet!

You'll get better :). I've been playing for 1-2 years and I can only just win above regent. That is quite slow progress.

Not all of us can be great. I am working at becoming better at Monarch myself, its definitely not a fast process. I have learned much since I joined this forum. My problem is supporting enough military to take and hold enemy cities in a timely manner, and managing a democracy or republic. I usually have to run monarchy or communism to fight my wars, and still, I am too slow. Keep working at it.

I get too lazy and don't micromanage my cities beyond the Industrial Era. I usually have about 150 cities by then, so it can get annoying micromanaging 20 cities every turn.

Mine would have to be (to a small extent) that I tend to be more of a builder, however, because of my own insane game variant that I play (which I call Greenpeace, meaning that I can never allow any city to get to level 3 size or build any pollution producing building), I emphasize production over pop growth, so I can mobilize my economy on a short notice.

My weakest point would have to be micro-managing... I don't feel like going through every city (especially when I have over 100) just to move citizens around so that I get the perfect food/shield ratio every turn. That is about the only thing keeping me from going past Monarch or Emperor difficulty level.

I also usually go for Culture, even in scens where culture victory is not possible, due to the fact that as far as I'm concerned, if I can get a city without firing a shot, so much the better (I've had 3 cities flip in the Middle Ages conquest, and I'm not even halfway through the game... I'm playing as Germany, and my culture is almost as high as the Byzantines, who start with an outrageously high cultire... Not even the Muslim countries have as much culture as I do)

@Turner: I usually manage to get a decent amount of workers, but I usually don't start pumping them out until I get at least 5 cites (that way I can have 1 city making workers, 1 making settlers, 2 making military, and 1 "floater" city that builds whatever I happen to need at the time), but I usually shoot for about 3 workers per city... Otherwise my infrastructure takes to long to shape up as far as I'm concerned.

I'm impatient when I know I want a win by a certain date, then when it seems that I can't make that goal I give up.

Most games I intend to go for a space victory and they always seem to evolve into a domination.

I get into a mode of building just about everything possible, except for a courthouse in my capitol, and then am "forced" to build units. And then I have to "exercise" my units which always comes at the expense of my neighbors. Then I start to question why I'm intent on a space victory in another 100 turns rather than a domination victory in 20.

You've just described how every one of my games goes.

Sounds like some of the FF mod games I've playtested to the end.... The only thing is that I never STARTED a single war.... I FINISHED every single one of them on MY terms, however..... Which usually ended up with me either winning a domination victory or coming darn close by the time I finish my spaceship....
