My favourite line from that song is - Football's coming home, it's coming home, it's coming. Football's coming home.

are there any other lines? :crazyeye:

I would have thought the lack of a poll option for that would have been an indication that you're more than welcome to not post in this thread if you don't like patriotic or country (or national folk) music.

But Three Lions and Three Lions '98 are patriotic songs. Every Englishman knows and loves Three Lions. Don't forget, the English are FAR more Patriotic about their football team than anything else. So much so that that song was released twice in two years - the first for England '96, the second for France '98. They were even considering re-releasing it for '02, '04, and i've heard murmurings that, 10 years later, it might be re-released for Germany '06.

If thats not patriotic I don't know what is. Please do not dismiss football fans opinions because you don't like football!

Edit:
Sorry, I didn't look at the poll because their all American and I've never heard any of them and I didn't realise you meant country music, I thought you meant nations.

Favourite American one? Bye Bye Miss American Pie.

Amazing deep and insightful song.

For Canadian country songs... Alberta Bound??

Well, it's very much a "war anthem," but just think of it as the USA fight song:

Quote:
O thus be it ever when free-men shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust!”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

I'd sing it without all the apostrophes.

Well, imho, the 4th verse pretty much sucks. What sucks more, though, the 4th verse or EVERY SINGLE patriotic country song ever made?

Now THAT is a tough one.

Whoops. Many sincere apologies, Wha'wasthat???. My previous post should have included quotes, but I forgot to do so. It wasn't in response to your post, but this one...

Indeed. I don't do country. I don't do patriotism.

Thats a DAMN good song - makes me proud to be Canadian, even though I have never been to Alberta in my life :)

EDIT: here are the lyrics:

Sign said 40 miles to Canada

My truck tore across Montana
Ian Tyson sang a lonesome lullaby
And so I cranked up the radio
Cause there's just a little more to go
For I'd cross the border at that Sweet Grass sign
I'm Alberta Bound

This piece of heaven that I've found
Rocky Mountains and black fertile ground
Everything I need beneath that big blue sky
Doesn't matter where I go
This place will always be my home
Yeah I've been Alberta Bound for all my life
And I'll be Alberta Bound until I die

It's a pride that's been passed down to me
Deep as coal mines, wide as farmer's fields
Yeah, I've got independence in my veins
Maybe it's my down-home redneck roots

Or these dusty 'ol Alberta boots
But like a Chinook wind keeps coming back again

That's the case of the american songs posted in the 1st page, but it's not always that.
My favourite one is "Bella Ciao" which is a partisans song.

questa mattina (this morning)
mi son svegliato (i woke up)
oh bella ciao (oh hi beautiful girl)
bella ciao
bella ciao ciao ciao
questa mattina mi son svegliato (this morning i woke up)
e ho trovato l'invasor (and I found the invader)

oh partigiano portami via (oh partisan take me away)
oh bella ciao..... bella ciao
bella ciao ciao ciao
oh partigiano (oh partisan)
portami via (take me away)
che mi sento di morir (that i feel like dying)

e se io muoio (and if i die)
da partigiano (as a partisan)
oh bella ciao ...... bella ciao
bella ciao ciao ciao
e se io muoio da partigiano (and if i die as a partisan)
tu mi devi seppellir (you have to bury me)

e seppellire (and bury me)
lassù in montagna (up there in the mountain)
oh bella ciao..... bella ciao
bella ciao ciao ciao
e seppellire lassu in montagna (and bury me up there in the mountain)
sotto l'ombra di un bel fior (under the shadow of a beautiful flower)

e le genti (and all the people)
che passeranno (that will pass by)
oh bella ciao ..... bella ciao
bella ciao ciao ciao
e le genti (and all the people)
che passeranno (that will pass by)
mi diranno che bel fior (will tell me "oh what a beautiful flower")

e questo il fiore (it is this)
del partigiano (the partisan's flower)
oh bella ciao ..... bella ciao
bella ciao ciao ciao
e questo è il fiore (it is this)
del partigiano (the partisan's flower)
morto per la libertà (who died for freedom)
e questo è il fiore del partigiano (it is this the partisan's flower)
morto per a libertà (who died for freedom)

What he said.
I especially dislike patriotic county music.
From any country.

well, these poll options are clearly for Americans only. You should have written that. Or otherwise, include other countries songs too.

Yeah, that was my mistake. I opened it up for any nation's 'folk' type songs as well in a later post. I'm not particularly interested in any rock-type songs.

I do not like Country that much, but I do like people felling proud of their nation. One of th best songs for an Australian is "Waltzing Mathlida". This song has become an unoffical anthem for the Wallabies, our rugby union team. It gets sung every game they have.

Listening to this one the other night and I realized that it's kind of relevant again thanks to Putin's posturing. I used to try to substitute "ChiComs" for "Russians" but it just never had the same ring to it. So kudos to you, Puttie baby, for making a great American jingoist tune relevant again! :goodjob:

Charlie Daniels - In America

Well the eagle's been flying slow and the flag's been flying low
And a lot of people are saying that America's fixing to fall
But speaking just for me and some people from Tennessee
We got a thing or two to tell you all
This lady may have stumbled but she ain't never fell
And if the Russians don't believe that they can all go straight to hell
We're gonna put her feet back on the path of righteousness
And then God bless America again

And you never did think that it ever would happen again
In America, did you?
You never did think that we'd ever get together again
Well we damn sure fooled you
We're walking real proud and we're talking real loud again in America
You never did think that it ever would happen again

From the sound up in Long Island out to San Francisco Bay
And ev'ry thing that's in between them is our home
And we may have done a little bit of fighting amongst ourselves
But you outside people best leave us alone
Cause we'll all stick together and you can take that to the bank
That's the cowboys and the hippies and the rebels and the yanks
You just go and lay your head on a Pittsburgh Steeler fan
And I think you're gonna finally understand

And you never did think that it ever would happen again
In America, did you?
You never did think that we'd ever get together again
Well we damn sure fooled you
We're walking real proud and we're talking real loud again in America
You never did think that it ever would happen again

Ah, don't worry about that anymore. THis was a long dormant thread I revived to throw CHarlie in there. Put whatever music you want in here. :)

Allrighty then :)

Born down in a dead mans town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog thats been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a.
I was born in the u.s.a., born in the u.s.a.

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Born in the u.s..a....

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man said son if it was up to me
Went down to see my v.a. man
He said son, dont you understand

I had a brother at khe sahn
Fighting off the viet cong
Theyre still there, hes all gone

He had a woman he loved in saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
Im ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run aint got nowhere to go

Born in the u.s.a., I was born in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., Im a long gone daddy in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., born in the u.s.a.
Born in the u.s.a., Im a cool rocking daddy in the u.s.a.

Cool lyrics. It's all very glum and then he ends with: Im a cool rocking daddy in the u.s.a.
