I started with Civ2 back in 1997, when I was 17 years old. :) It was one of the first two PC games I bought; the other game was Heroes of Might and Magic II. Both ended up being my favorite game series.

I have never played Civ1...

Started playing stategy games back in 1985. First game was Tactics I then Tactics II. Bought Civ I, then Civ II, then CivIII. Just bought C3C last month. I'll be 55 in June and have enjoyed playing Civ for many years. I found civfanatic site only last year and am truly greatly to all the members who have made playing civ a much more enjoyable and intereting experience. I am just now starting to play around with developing my own mod. My hat is off to all those who have created so many of the mods and scenarios that I have downloaded and played. Great job. It is groups like this and others like it that have made and continue to Civ the top strategy game of all time. Congrats again and keep up the great work.

I started Civ1 the day it was released for sale, having been been trained with Pirates and others.
I am 68 and still learning.

There was a post a couple of years ago asking for ages -- so I know I am not the oldest.
At least I am not elderly yet.

Been playing since my mom bought me the first Civ so long ago, and I still have the diskettes and the manual, but lost the box. I was 13, now im 25 and play at least a couple turns each day, and have not gotten bored of it yet.

Civ forever!

I have never play Civ I. I'm wondering what I am missing if it could have an effect on so many people. Civ II did it for me; I guess there was something about the first one (that you don't know ;) ).

Don't worry, you will be soon... ... :( .

I was 8 when I first found CIV2 in my local Electronics Botique. That was 4 years ago. I really enjoyed the first one but sort of forgot about and never really thought about CIV3 until I got it for Christmas.

started playing at 12 i think. hard to imagine someone starting to play over 40 though, it seems that interest in games would die by then.

Well, I'm always surprised to see how many under 20s are playing the game. Y'all have a whole lot more patience and strategic thinking going than I did in high school, I'll tell you what. Let alone earlier.

Started playing in my late 20s. Don't see 40 as much of a barrier. Hell, I might even get good at it someday.

I started the summer of 2001. (It was a summer class) I was 10

I also started with Civ2 back in '97, but I was 27 years old. ;) I only played Civ1 a few years later, and I still remember how I thought that Civ2 was a much better game, but I vividly recall some things in Civ1, like the newspaper and the technological breakthroughs. Very cool.

Hey, 1997 is also when I got into the series with CivII. I was hospitalized for two weeks in November and I had a new laptop my parent's bought for schooling(I was in some internet correspondance program) and brought it with me to the hospital, but I had few games for it, CivII was something my mom bought for her use(she had been addicted to Colonization on our old MAC) but she brought the CD to the hospital where I tried the game out. If not for the fact the hospital offered few opportunities for entertainment, I might not have gotten into the series at all.

I was 14 years old at the time. CivII was probably the one game I played most on that laptop.

I can't remember exactly when I started. It seems I've been playing Civ3 forever, but it can't be much more then 2 or 3 years ago!

That was at an age of 29 or 30 and I hope I get the chance to play it (or something like it of course) when I'm 68 like mista! :hatsoff:

I started playing in my 20's and have a vague recollection of Civ I, but Civ II really got me (especially the drunken military advisor who didn't bother to turn up due to the effect of far too many victory drinks) I miss them :(

I am now 41  and playing modded conquests ie WH and MoM.

I am also converting many friends and their kids to the pleasures of Civ

Cheers :goodjob:

Back in 1991, when my uncle bought a CD-ROM/Soundblaster kit for me. It had Civ3, and other Microprose games on a CD.

Yeah, the advisors are boring in Civ3, I really miss them from Civ2, the drunk millitary guy and the nerdy science guy were the funniest. I also miss the animated Civs (Cleopatra was hot, I always had the Egyptions on :mischief: ) and Wonders pop-ups.

I hope they have this kind of stuff in Civ4. I know it's just icing on the cake, but I like icing. :p I say the advisors in Civ3 have a few screws loose because they make that jingling sound when they try to talk, like some cheap alien off of the original Star Trek.
