I want to know what to aim for when playing because I feel that artillery is usually the changing point of the game the earlier you get it.

I'm posting the poll by year because people play on different speeds (thus different turns)

Also, for those of you who can get it really early, what social policies do you get? Do you go warmongering before that or camp it up? Any other advice?

I usually get it at around the 1400s on a Small map on King difficulty at Normal speed. Since I always conquer people, I get it by focusing on the Steel > Rifling > Dynamite route, using Great Scientists whenever possible. Always need to be ahead of the competition.

I never rush for Industrial, so about 1600 with Quick speed chosen always.

I never get there when it should be. I'm always way early. I should increase the difficulty if this is the case though.

Won't matter. Getting tech early is linked more to Research Agreements than anything else. Long as you stay solvent and aren't at war with everyone, you'll lead the historical tech curve.

I don't know when I usually get to Industrial. I do usually have two benchmarks for tech progress:

Astronomy by 200 AD (0 AD if I really beeline it)
Wheels by 1600 AD (either Tanks or Mech Inf)

If I make those, I am having a good science game.

Voted 1200s. I usually get artillery in a multiplayer game around this date if i build universities in time. For singleplayer this is certainly faster where RAs get some importance.
