What are the bugs your gonna fix? What stuff is planing on being added? Will you make the AI smarter and get rid of the famous AI Stupidities from their programming?

Will this be a renaissance for scenario creation? Will people flock back to Civ 2 again?

I am curious to see what is planning on being done.

If we can make suggestions...the first thing i want done, is to make the Eifel Tower...useful.... and possibly give the Bombers the ability hold nuclear missiles? =)

Those are just some minor ones...

"When"? Don't you mean "If"? To be honest, I don't really see the point in making wish lists before the code has been released - something which may never become a reality. However, should it be realised, I'd prefer to see bug fixes take priority over gameplay changes - that way you won't be offending anyone. Your two suggestions are gameplay changes. If there's one thing I want "fixed" more than any other, it's those AI stupidities. Of course doing so would also affect gameplay.

your no fun...plus i'm sure they'll give it up eventually.

1. It'll be non profit
2. The game isn't being sold in stores...well it might, but for purposes more then likely not.
3. Great Publicity...or so we'll say. =p

plus it's not like we can make the graphics any better... we just need somebody to bother them and go through the paperwork.

So who wants to be the accountant?

Um the game isnt that old and I am pretty sure I saw Civ2 in a Walmart near my house not more then 2 months ago. In addition to that source codes for some games are never realeased especially if they were extremely profitable.

1. The game came out in '96... it's been out for at least 8 years now... The last patch came out 6 years ago.

2. Ok maybe some places might be selling it...but it's probably either in the used section, or the really cheap old game sections.

3. Despite the fact it might be profitable, we're just going to be making patches for it basically... obviously not selling anything.

4. I hope your wrong... a game like this, i hope they do release the source code. =\

Already did, i was just wondering what was planning on being done, if we ever got the source code.

What Wobbegong said: gameplay changes would come last. Fixes come first (i.e. basically finishing the job).

And AFAIK, no contact has been made with the owners of the rights yet so...

Yeah, I'm a miserable bugger, aren't I? :D I'm also a realist. :p

You're assuming they still have it.

With the source code you could. One could increase the city, terrain and unit dimensions, as well as the colour depth to say, 24-bit or even 32-bit, for starters. PNG support and alpha channel transparency/anti-aliasing would be nice.

The last version of Civ2 was Test of Time. It came out in 1999, as did its patch (1.1).

It's still sold on the Internet. I've seen ads for it. Of course it's really cheap; it's really old.

I hope they do, too. After all, I did sign the source code petition.

Can't, it no longer exists! ;)

(You've been playing a Civ a bit too much--I would suggest seeking a diplomatic solution on this one...you don't have enough units! :D )

Dang Wal-Mart...they're putting small time shops out of business!

Then again, you should not sell a game like Civ 1 for 25$ X_X.

Hmmm...i think i'm gonna stop by my local wal-mart and see what they have....i havent been in one for like...forever.

civ1=25$? lol

walmart will only succeed if you buy from them........in instances of software, theres no moral need to pay for something so old

theres no way you can succeed using internet to get source code anyway, you have to go in person and get it.and since noone can do that,it will never come out

I recall having read somewhere (here? Apolyton?) that the source code may never go out, for the simple reason that it is now probably lost (who owns it anyway? Microprose? They disappeared. Firaxis? They'd prefer to have Civ IV in stores!)

The source code for the first civilization should be released first. After all, we've been waiting longer.

Plus, civ1 for $25 is a great deal. It's better then *any* game sold at *any* price so I don't see why you guys are so OMFGWAHTARIP about it. *sigh*

well I've got a small theory about companies and the odds they release the source code of their products : they will not, never (ok, i'm pretty sure there are exceptions), because :
- there is often / always third party code involved (graphic / sound engine, ...)
- it would show to the whole world how crappy the code can be.

The first reason is the official one , I'm sure the second is the truth :) :)
