I will pre-order it on steam and use Steam's fantastic service to pre-load it, begin playing it at midnight on release day, and then play it until I can no longer see the screen for lack of sleep.

I work in a game store... I'll buy the Deluxe the second it gets delivered. When my wife told me that the baby we're expecting is to be born end September, I actually cursed because that's when Civ comes out and I was going to plan 2 weeks holidays then...
Don't mind the steam, steam works pretty good. Would pre-order there if not for employee discount.
If however I find evidence anywhere that modding won't be free (eg: can't mod in a Babylon civ because that's "DLC only"), I'm not buying.

I registered after finding out about the DLC /Steam announcement
I have bought civ 1 to 4 with add-ons multiple times for myself and as gifts.
If the dlc is zero day no sale, steam required=no sale .
Perhaps after a GOTY version with all the dlc comes out I will buy it install so i only have to mess with steam once or move on to other games:(
I have been computer gaming since 1977 I don't pirate so i have never played hl2 or other games that require additional stuff to run the industry has saved me money my expenses on games have went from 400 or more a year to less than 200. Please release a version I can support I WANT to give you my money for civ 5 but at present this will be the first civ I havent bought on release day thanks

I dont think there will be a GOTY Edition. Civ5 is gonna to get very bad, it'll never get a "GOTY" Award.

Wow, throwing the baby out with the bathwater? It's on steam so it's bad? Really? Check your priorities, man.

I'll prolly buy it on release day or within a week (after the reviews come out). I am not happy about the DRM but if it needs to be there i would prefer steam to others...

I'll probably wait until I get better comp stuff so I can actually play on big maps. Or until someone makes a mod with Israel :D

Will probably preorder.

P.S. the first option in the poll could be phrased better - "have preordered/will preorder" instead just "I pre-bought it"

I'll probably buy it in the store the day it comes out. There's a slim chance I'll buy it as a DLC, but it's been a while since I bought a game with an actual box and manual. That'd be nice for a change.

I am making my way to Civ V, still playing Civ III, though.

So, I guess not in the next 2 years. :king:

Well if I'm going to be forced to use Steam in order to play, which is going to be the case according to what I've been reading, then never.

Leaning that way too and very bummed out about the bundling with anything like Steam. Unless they patch it to not be tied to steam eventually, kinda like the did with the CD required removal with Civ IV after a couple years.

Let me be the first to say, officially, you have your priorities WAY off.

Other: too early to tell. While I have pre-ordered [civ4] previously, I waited till about a month before the release when there was more info out there about the game and its features. In this case, not fully understanding what this steam :nuke: thing practically means, I may wait a few months after the release to see what's going on. Work wise I won't have any time in September anyway.

I agree, just ask if she can't hold it for a few weeks. :p

Ahh com on.. He is just showing of for the folks here to sound cool. When he gets his baby "delivered" he will not look at his PC for a long time. So give him some slack ;-)

I was set on trying to wait just a little while, at least for the first patch to come out, wich when it comes to the latest edition of the Civilization franchise probably would involve voluntary imprisonment, ropes and chains, straitjacket and/or other means of restraint. The use of certain DRMs however, can be a complete dealbreaker.

I will get this when I don't have to use steam, I understand many people like the program, I have used it but really don't like it. When it comes out on Gamersgate I shall purchase it.
