Realy,I have watched a lot of gameplays videos, and really...where is the MUSIC?
I know that the is music in Civ V,but look civilization I,II,and IV,!

The russian diplomacy music (If it was their music) does not compare to the both IV Russian musics,or to the I and IV song: The Volga Boatmen's Song

And where is Harvest of the Nile? The music is the theme of egypt in I and IV,and is also a Soundtrack of II.

I did't listen to The Shining Path,a music that is in ALL the Civilizations games!

Also, the choise of the musics dont look good, not only the classics of Civ are missing, but the musics are not like they are in all the previous games,I'm waiting to get the game to give a grade to all the musics, but by the few gameplays that have in-game music that I watched it will have the worst soundtrack of all civ....

For me its all so soft....

And,what do you think about the soundtrack?

I for one find the music to be much more sophisticated than in previous Civilizations. As a music theory and composition major and someone who writes music, I find some of the things that are done with the harmonies to be very interesting. I like the fact that each civilization got a peace time and war time theme that was totally original and recorded with a live orchestra. While these themes are less "epic" than one might expect there is still beauty and awe to be found in them.

For those of you who are wondering where to find the music I will put the link here for you.

Note that those songs are just (some) of the leader songs. The game has 1 GB of music (from the steam preload files) encoded in Ogg. The leader music takes up 183 mb. The rest of the music (which is in 4 sections by continent) take up 800. There's a lot of music here.
(and yes, that does mean that at the moment, about 22% of the game space is taken up by music :D).

Nice samples on that page. The music was annoying me during Greg's demo just because their volumes were kind of all over the place. But it sounds much nicer thru a quality feed on headphones. I may actually listen to the game music for a while instead of instantly disabling it.

I'm happy with the music! Sure there was songs in the other games that were good, but this is a new game, and the music I've heard thus far seems fitting.

Is the 1gb all songs, or is it the sound effects also? 1gb would really mean there's a lot of diversity in the music. I'm down with that! My speakers broke last year, and I was used to playing IV with no music. I just got a new set of speakers so I can listen to V's great soundtrack.

I listened the originals, and they are not bad,but I still annoyed, the old Civ musics have a place in my music player and in my heart XD
some of them like
Augustus Rise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxkHAbNbrxM&feature=related

or

The Shining Path http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C55Ae3apn5s&feature=related

Are with my since I buyed Civilization II for Play 1 in 99,they are with me since my childhood...

and changing it...

They can make the best music of the world, but I will aways say,Shining Path was better for a chinese theme.

Arabia's music is badass.

I agree though, if the original pieces of music that always seem to pop up in civ don't in civ5... that'll be a little jarring... though ultimately I'll get over it.

No, that's just music (There are 307 tracks in total).

Doing some math here:
If you take the amount of seconds per mb in the mp3s from Geoff Knorr's site (did it for 4, then averaged)
Then take the difference in file size between the game's ogg files and the MP3s.
I can guesstimate that there will be between 12-15 hours of music in this game. The main thing that could throw me off is if the ogg files get a significant increase in size when decrypted. Even then, there is a lot of music in this game.

There is first 2 track per leader then there is an ADDITIONAL tracks for example 24(America) for each type of nation (America / Europe / Asian) and tracks for war / peace and either.

So if you play France you have first 2 tracks for the leader then

13 tracks for either peace or war

26 track for peace

37 tracks for war.

Thats just crazy. :)

This is all the pre-release music. The music in the final game will be a continuous loop of the first four bars of the in-game music from Might and Magic 3: Isles of Terra.

I would add that there appears to be a LOT more music in the game than what they presented in little web preview. If you look in the game folders you can see all the track titles.

Actually I find "England - Elizabeth - I Vow to Thee, My Country" (peace) to be beautiful. ;) I also like Greece, Japan, Arabia - and listening to the rest. ;)

Yes... I agree on Elizabeth's peace theme. It's wonderful. What the cite doesn't tell you though is that it is a re-orchestration of "Jupiter:The Bringer of Jollity" from his symphonic suit called The Planets. You should check it out if you like her theme music.

Holst specifically wrote that portion of Jupiter to fit the poem "I Vow to Thee, My Country," so really it's both.
