Moderator Action: We're having some trouble behind the scenes right now. We're on it. Please bear with us. - Nikolai II

Genuinely don't know where to post this, so apologies mods as I'm fairly certain this breaks the rules but I don't know where to ask this question that complies.

Why has the most popular thread on the forum about the play count on Civ VII just been nuked?

Has firaxis had a quiet word?

Please can we have some transparency on this?

Hidden by mod team I would assume. Still got notification about new post there but it's 404. I understand that negativity this game is spawning can be tiresome for mods. But nuking whole threads and not single accounts crossing boundaries is weird for me. I think that lately at least negativity was beginning to be limited to mostly those controversial threads and not spilling all over the civ 7 subforum. Wasn't this situation better for mods?

I'm also surprised. I had a feeling that the bans helped to reduce the trolling, and that the thread wasn't toxic in the past one or two weeks.

Maybe it's also just renamed and "cleaned"? The name has been off for pretty much the entire thread, which was remarked again recently.

I'm way out of loop when it comes to community board engines, but usually thread identifiers in hyperlinks should stay the same even if topic is changed. There is also topic in the url, but you can check by changing it to anything in the url, that it still works as long as ID is correct, for example this thread with altered url, but correct id: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/not-what-this-is-about.697523/
I checked links in my browser history and they no longer works, so thread is either soft (so hidden for anyone else but mods) or hard-deleted.

I tried keeping the discussions clean but it was too many... it would be easy to make a new one, I don't think we are losing much in reality, but I don't know If I'd be doing it now, the time span has moved on.

That wasn't intentional. Other threads disappeared as well (I noticed the leading thread on Civ4 general discussion is also gone).

CFC team is working on it. Maybe they should add a mod comment in the opening post to make that clear to everyone. I'm sure it will soon be back. :)

This would be a good time to create a separate "Complaints" area and put it there. This would make "General Discussions" actual discussions again and maybe hopefully bring people back.
A great deal of threads in the general discussion forums have to do with “complaints” about the game. From broken mechanics, to bugs, and unexplained features—if you want to move all of these to a “complaints” forum, there won’t be much discussion here, I’m afraid.

I 100% disagree. If it was possible to disagree more I would.
I just don’t think sequestering or cordoning off negative feedback or criticism does anything positive for the game’s development or increases engagement in the way you are hoping it will.

I don’t understand your premise of “bringing people back” either — do you mean to the forums or to the game itself?

People back to the forums. I'm one of them, and i've communicated with many more.

There was/is plenty of criticism in the civ 6 fourms and it didn't cause anyone to leave.

I don’t really understand why people would leave the forums based on a thread or two. I don’t understand this position at all.

I think it’s more likely that Civ VII hasn’t had the success regarding from critical reviews or player feedback that other iterations have enjoyed. I think that if Firaxis can improve the game, then the feedback will improve. In the meantime, we shouldn’t self censor or hide valid criticism in a sub form. This would be like me suggesting that all positive threads be relegated to a “happy talk” forum.

I play the game every day and check the forums regularly. Despite some of my criticism, I still find some things to enjoy with the game and am appreciating getting to know the systems better.

Something strange, I was banned earlier than not. Then again then not again.

A strange spammy message from a moderator came in during the time, it didn’t really look like something a mod would send (it asked me if I was a criminal). Figured it was worth mentioning, not sure else where to report it. But I’m sure the mods are on it, wishing you guys the best if you’re dealing with some tricky situation! Thanks for all the hard work you do.

Civ7 forum had other missing threads too. Little questions thread was gone for hour or so.
