My favourite leader/civ to play in IV is Darius I of the Persians.

Although, I am also becoming quite partial to Hannibal and the Carthaginians when I want to be a warmonger.

I've played alot of games with random leader and ALOT of games so yeah I've played all of them many times.

Nice! We have 108 votes so far, and it seems the Zulus are losing with a domination victory :)

Zulus, Koreans, Malinese, Aztecs, Americans, Incans, Spanish, Arabs and Indians all with 20+ Votes

a quick guess would be, that most players cannot identify with them, means most voters are Europeans... the Spanish and Americans surprised me but I guess it is cause of the spanish real crappy UU plus a general anti american stance which means america is loved, but only as opponent...

for me I pick a certain civ cause I just love them or some gameplaying things like my favour of creative leaders, interesting UU, UB... though with civs I just don´t like I have a hard time picking even with good UU... As for the Zulus, I maybe start a last game of Civ IV with them, I have always put Shaka in my games manually for his attitude of growing troops like weed...

Well, I like all those you picked out except the Americans. The more exotic and obscure, the better!

The Civ3 civ that I played least was the French. That was purely due to the eye-sore pink of their civ color. I still played them some though. I played them all in every version. Favorites tend toward Civs like the Mongolians, Vikings, Lakota, etc. But I had no reason to not play any of the others.

it´s all irrational... gilgamesh for example, even though he is creative I couldn´t play him cause he drove me so mad in my first games, with his vultures and beeing protective and always an awesome economy...

Now by votes we have Zulu, Mali, Korea, and America all in the 30+ votes bracket. I find it interesting since Zulu are some of the best pure warmongers and the Mali are great diplomats with a solid economy and an early defense bonus to get established. Soewan is a pretty decent UU and fin\pro are good traits, but most people can't play protective effectively so I can see why they are on the list. I can see why the States are high on the list of teams people don't play, they are weak in game and don't have much place on the civ list at all. Its kind of a boring civ to include unless you love them and play them or hate them and want to destroy them.

I've actually never played any Civ but Germany :)

lol, same with me. (almost, i also tried HRE)

maybe that's because i'm not so into multiplayer games and don't mind the UU, UB and traits of all the different civs. I'm just playing for fun and love to play and win with my country but i think a lot of player just think the same way and almost only play with there 'home' civ.

A lot of German players seems to love to play with Germany in Hearts of Iron-games which is something I find a little ...odd.

Well, for me as a Swede it would be the Vikings. I like them, but I would get bored if I just played with them over and over...

why are the celts italicized? hint, Never ever played them, UU and UB and dumb. never played Native Americans either, UU and defensive trait is dumb. NEver played Koreans, defensive trait again, dumb. Same with Sumeria. I wish babylon and sumeria were better, then I would have liked to have played them.

Because that's the one you voted for.

I also like Shaka as an opponent, I rather play as the Mayans or Incans.

People don't play as the Americans because their UU and UB are so late they're basically irrelevant. The game is almost always decided by the time the Americans get their UU and UB. That's why I never play as them (though I have played with them before).

I've never played the Americans because it bothers me they are even in the game. They weren't around in 4000 BC. Mind you I have 1) lived in the states my entire life and 2) have no problems playing other civs that weren't around in 4000BC. So it's completely irrational on my part.

well, every game was different compared to the last game so i never got bored.

but i didn't know what you ment by: Hearts of Iron
so i googled it and found a nice wikipedia entry about this game. it seems to be a very good game! do you like it? do you play it a lot? do you think that some1 who loves civ could fall into love with this game as well?

It is one of the best games ever! If you are interested in military history and particularly in World War 2, this is the closest to paradise you get!

I don't understand the results for Zulu, one of the best wepons do defeat Shaka is to play as him! And by the way UB and UU are rather strong. Long forgoten are the days when I was builder playing with Incas.

And I have to admit that I do play as India a lot, since civ3, and power of Asoka is not to be underestimated!

I play random so I've hit them all a number of times, but I hate rolling Arabia or Germany.

America can be pretty bad too if I don't get Washington.

I have never played as America (mostly :P ) because the sounds of the people are annoying! Every time I click on a worker or soldier etc, annoying!

I generally play as a random leader, I once drew America and immediately went to main menu and tried again.

Japan also, the trait combo is terrible.

yeah i cant stand the fact that the US of A are even in the game at all... I like to play in the ancient era which led me to mod the US of A out of the game completely.. I'd rather have the South Americans in the game like the Incans etc..

by this poll it should be pretty clear which civs shouldn't be in the game.. hint hint..
