Personally I Love the Iriquois .Goody huts are so good to me, even on diety.

I like the Maya, but they're only in Conquests, so I'll say Japan. Samurai rule!

samurai are intmidating, when do they appear?

They replace knights, so Chivalry.

ah...nice but, for a special unit they aren't that much better than knights, I bet they have trouble defeting pikeman

Ottoman - Scientific (cheap libraries & Universities + free tech each age) & Industrious (faster workers) plus the best offensive unit until tanks and considering the defense maybe in the whole game the Siphai (8-3-3). Late middle age golden age when you're republic (or democracy), gives a big production boost. The Civ of choice for HOF games in huge worlds.

You can go for any win type with them, culture, military or science.

Ottomans- Two great traits and an awesome UU

The Celts (Who were neglected :()

Two great traits (Religious and Agricultural) and a BROKEN UU.

sorry to all PTW and conquestf fans out there, I am still playing Civ3 in its original form

Aztec
1) uu only cost 10 shields.
2) After you get iron I like to have 1 to 2 cities not connected w/ roads. Then only build aztec warriors. Then run them on your roads to your last city (put a barrack there) and up grade cheeply.
3) attack, kill, win!
It's fast and cheep for early win.

I'd say Germany, the germans are militaristic and scientific the best combo for an all around game. Problem is the Panzer isn't avalaible till late in the game making staying alive a little bit harder. But when it comes you can easily make your enemies into minced meat.

"Any dispute, controversy or claim arising out of or relating to this Agreement or to a breach hereof, including its interpretation, performance or termination, shall be finally resolved by arbitration. The arbitration shall be conducted by three (3) arbitrators, one to be appointed by Infogrames Interactive, one to be appointed by You and a third being nominated by the two arbitrators so selected or, if they cannot agree on a third arbitrator, by the President of the American Arbitration Association ("AAA"). The arbitration shall be conducted in English and in accordance with the commercial arbitration rules of the AAA. The arbitration, including the rendering of the award, shall take place in New York, New York, and shall be the exclusive forum for resolving such dispute, controversy or claim. The decision of the arbitrators shall be binding upon the parties hereto, and the expense of the arbitration (including without limitation the award of attorneys' fees to the prevailing party) shall be paid as the arbitrators determine. The decision of the arbitrators shall be executory, and judgment thereon may be entered by any court of competent jurisdiction."

"Notwithstanding anything contained in the foregoing Paragraph to the contrary, Infogrames Interactive shall have the right to institute judicial proceedings against You or anyone acting by, through or under You, in order to enforce Infogrames Interactive's rights hereunder through reformation of contract, specific performance, injunction or similar equitable relief. For the purposes of this Paragraph, both parties submit to the jurisdiction of, and waive any objection to the venue of, the state and federal courts of the State of New York."

Kudos to your technical jargon,Midala, but in this case majority rules. Its that simple.:p

BTW, China and America are tied at this point!
I can see america but, China!?They are usually my Shoe-tongues...thats right they lick the **** off my boots!HAHA

The best civ in Civ3 (vanilla version) is Persia. They have great traits (industrious and scientific) and a killer UU (immortal). If used correctly, the golden age comes at just the right time for some of the best wonders in the game and with an attack of 4, the immortal reigns supreme in the Ancient Age allowing you to get a very early start on expanding your empire. Plus, Xerxes makes for a nasty AI neigbour.

If anyone hasn't noticed, all that "technical jargon" was "quoted" from the Civ3 readme.text. I just thought it was funny when you apply it to an "arguement".

Depends on the map, but I find the Rider to be an excellent continent sweeper. They eat spearmen for breakfast, smack down pikemen and hold their ground against muskets. They also help trigger a good GA shortly after you escape despotism. You can finish the GL, build Sun Tzu, Bach's, Leonardo's...

what superslug says.

China is industrious and the 3 move rider is a fantastic weapon.

I guess I treated this poll differently. Though not my favourite, I thought that of the Vanilla civs Greece has the biggest advantage: good culture and research, a strong defensive UU that needs no resources, and commercial trait which, though not as popular as industrious, is IMHO a stronger trait in the long term.

Whenever I have Greece as a neighbour, I take them very seriously and do my best to keep them from getting too powerful early because once they get big, they can be very difficult to stop.

With the PTW and C3C civs, there are other civs that I feel have significant, innate advantages: Ottomans, Dutch, Maya, come to mind. Again, not thinking in terms of the ones I like to play, but the ones I feel have advantages when played by the AI.

:egypt: eygpt of course with the traits :worship: religous and :whipped: industrious u got love them

their UU sucks though...:wallbash:

but over all i say buy 'em a round:beer:
