Which free techs do you choose for Oracle/Liberalism?

With Liberalism I often get Astronomy because it's expensive and I want to build up my long distance trade network. I'm curious, what's so good about Nationalism?
You can draft units, helping you to make a big stack.

metal casting and astronomy usually.

i usually don't get the oracle. i play on emperor. i get liberalism quite a bit.

The Oracle is useful, but only really practical with the right game situation.
Normally pick Code Of Laws, if surrounded by Jungle, or great plains may go for Metal Casting.

Liberalism - If i've Espionaged correctly, I will only get this at latest time - if I need to be quick then I pick Printing Press (for coin) or Astronomy. Will normally with time go for any technology leads towards rifling or tanks.

If seen plenty of people say Nationalism for Taj Mahal - to get a golden age - they are reasonable yes, but are they really so useful? I've always felt i don't use them as well as I can!

Oracle - CoL this could start a AP/SM/US/SC plan though I love the courthouses as I usually play organized.
Liberalism - Rifling, and conquer the world (sometimes democracy or astronomy)

I don't often go for Lib I usually try for the Oracle though.

Most games are on monarch

I've tried getting CoL with the Oracle a couple of times recently, it was pretty awesome.

How do you manage rifling with Liberalism? Surely waiting that long is cutting it a little close?

I usually don't bother with nationalism and go straight for rifling after banking. Though sometimes I'll throw in education beforehand.

How? There are loads of techs to go through before rifling, such as Printing press and replacable parts...

Oracle - Feudalism preferably.

If I had to build it prematurely, sometimes I just grab Monarchy. On other rare occassions I take Metal Casting.

Liberalism - Astronomy.

As others have said I will try for Democracy but that is pretty risky I find. If somehow have a lead I may push into rifling too. But 90% of the time, Astronomy.

Econ for Liberalism if available, whatever if not, usually. Then again, I'm not much better then a Warlord....

Metal Casting or Code of Laws (or even Philosophy) for the Oracle.

Oracle = CoL (if got no religion) or MC (for hammer blitz).

Liberalism = Astronomy (isolated start) or Nationhood (for Taj).

NB: usually only go for Oracle if Industrious; due to difficulty level. ;)

Oracle: CoL or MC. Occasionally alphabet as this can often allow for some incredible mass trading on the right kind of map.

Liberalism: Varies, but usually nationalism or astronomy depending on map. Printing press can be bulbed 2/3 with a scientist. If I have a big tech lead I've taken wild things with lib - once got mass media on noble (usually play emperor so a noble warrior rush on earth 18 civs broke that game). Taking steel is pretty common for good players (immortal +) who do well on the highest difficulties. I do not represent one of these players yet but hope to eventually.

With the Oracle, it depends on the win I'm going for. If religious, then theology so I can chop the AP. If culture, then CoL or more likely CS so that I can either run artists or get ber. up and running. If domination or conquest, feudalism for the LB and shortcut to Maceman. If time or space, then CS also.

For liberalism, I always get the most expensive which is usually nationalism.

Oracle - Metal Casting, every time. I Beeline for Priesthood!

Liberalism - Astronomy or Economics, although oftentimes I don't get there first.

Oracle > Theology
Liberalism > Depends largely on the available techs at that point. (Emperor)
