Which is better, Civ2 FW/MGE/GOLD or ToT?

Which is better. I don't like ToT much.

I have both and choose to play MGE, because
(1) More scenarios, modpacks etc. are designed for this version
(2) I've played this version since it came out, so TOT was daunting scary Civ 3 style units

MGE is better, especially since it works with XP, whilst ToT does not...

MGE is the same thing as Gold. MGE us an acronym for Multiplayer Gold Edition.

But I say FW/MGE/Conflicts is better than ToT.

Oh, and I've got both FW, MGE and ToT, all working on my XP computer.

ToT is better than MGE ... but MGE have more and more scenarios so if u want just to play scenario and don't want to make one, MGE is the best choice.

Is it just my PC, or do the ToT units move "slowly". Even on Railroads, they move slowly.

I've never noticed them moving slowly...

AoW: Switch on the "fast piece slide" in the game options, or hold down SHIFT while they're moving. But that's exactly the same as any other Civ2 version.

ToT is far superior to its predecessors... The graphics are something to get used to though.

So long as people pick MGE in favour of ToT because of the number of scenarios, ToT will never be able to catch up. Maybe all pre-ToT scenarios should be converted to ToT format.

civconverter {got it from Apolyton once upon a time} transforms all those old scenarios to play on ToT, negating the second thing that held back ToT. The first is that its much easier to get a game with MGE... pity, cause ToT is heaps better

Personally I like FW/MGE because for one thing I have windows XP so and they seem to work better for me anywas

I play mostly TOT Fantasy. I think it's more fun than the Gold ed., but I have found the SF TOT game to be a really different version of the Civ game. I found it a little harder to accaimate myself to the SF game than to the Fan. game. < but I've enjoyed every variation of CIV that I've tried, be Civ I Civ II Civ III ,Or CivII TOT. They're ALL FUN!!!

I prefer the Gold for sure. TOT seems too dark. And as I am used to MGE, I like the city report screen better. The one on TOT probably just takes some getting used to, but I get all my info at a glance in MGE.

ToT allows civ2 city screen, there's an option for change city screen type !

Definitely MGE. As said before there are more scens and the graphic in ToT is really strange. Besides that it's easier to create a scen for MGE with the editor as to do everything by yourself in ToT which could be very annoying.

I know this is hardly the multiplayer forum, but I have been forced to spread my search even into the Civ 3 multiplayer forum to see if any of them would like to revert back just for one game, so this is hardly a stretch. I am nicosar, the one who has began the multiplayer thread in the other section which has been dominant as the game of the elite! HAAHAha, do not sweat it, these players who have committed themselves may be worthy but not ALL of them can even begin to claim mastery, and maybe there is one or two of you in here that are not the best of the best but merely seek a great challenge and possibly the best master-customized civ game they might ever play? If so I would be honored to hear from you, since we only have a couple players slots left to fill to begin this great new game. It will be a full game, with a beautiful personally customized GIGA map, and many more things! Come to my thread if you are at all interested!!
