I may sound like some over correcting and annoying health freak here, but seriously, watch your blood pressure... salt is like an addiction. If you have the habit of eating too salty, stuff that is already salty won't taste salty enough. It's like drinking coke first, then eating a cookie. Ugh! The cookie will taste like a cracker.
Also, pepper is not a tastebud-taste, the special aroma comes through the nose (just like all the aroma that makes each and every single food unique). I am not sure why pepper is deemed 'hot', perhaps because of the sudden burst of very aromatic substances (which numbs the tongue). Here they sell some kind of candy which contains loads of cinnamon causing it to actually taste 'spicy', but it's not the real capsaicin spicy.
Things like horseradish, strong mustard and wasabi do the same, I think, but only they go up through the nose...
