The first item is the UU, the second item is the leader.

I'd like to see a Spain civ, with Conquistador as the UU (A4/D4/M1, prereq = gunpowder) with Isabella as the Leader.

Any thoughts?

I would like to see an Arabic civ. Your poll cruelly lacks it.

How about the Brotherhood of Nod? Or the GDI?

You get a gold star if you know why you're laughing at that one.

Command and Conquer. Hehehe.

I agree. The arabs UU could be the bedouin horseman or the Janisarries, elite troops of the Ottoman Empire.

thank you for your comment - the first constructive comment of this thread....

I tend to like civs which had sizeable empires in real life history. So I voted for Spain, but I'd also like to see the return of Genghis Khan and his filthy Mongols. I don't know why they were dropped from the list in the first place really.

The Dutch, again a big trading empire, but not included in Civ3, why? Ditto for the Portuguese and the beloved Vikings.

As for the Israelis, well we already have them, sort of, ie. America (hey, that should raise some comments). I'd also not like to see minor players like Canada (likely to culture-flip on itself) or Australia (no culture at all).

There are several middle eastern civs already in the game (Persians, Egyptians and Babylonians) but if we wanted another, I'd nominate the Turks as they had the Ottoman empire.

To make room for some new civs, I'd willingly drop the Iroquois and the Zulu, but I guess political correctness would prevent this happening.:p

Well I'd like a Polynesian Civ. They could have an extra-long-range seagoing galley as their UU.

The "problem" with introducing new civs is to find a plausible UU
This seems to limit the possibilities fairly severly

Obvious candidates:
Vikings :
UU = either the Berserker of Norse mythology (a souped-up warrior) or the Longboat (an ocean-going gallery with maybe +1 carrying capacity)

Mongols :
UU = Horseback Archer (maybe too similar to existing UUs)

Swedish:
UU = some form of enhanced cannon/artillery (reflects Lennart Torstenssen's effect on Gustavus Adolphus's armies)

While at it, I'd change a few existing UUs as well:
Surely the English's UU should be the Longbow (remember Agincourt)
America's UU should be the Minuteman (a very cheap to build Musketeer - think the American Revolution)

friedmad, sorry but you only gave 3 real selections. The vikings, the spanish and the sioux. let me say why i have probs w/ the others
Irish--- I am irish, and while we are a happy(hiccup), prosperous, potato eating people, we are nowhere near a civiliztion of huge merit, ala rome, greece, england etc.
Canadian- even canadians laugh at the canadian civilzation and government
Mexican- how does that joke go... arent they all absorbed by the american civilization????
and israel....... thats ridiculous..... they would have to run around as a settler until the mid 1900's :p

Dont get me wrong i would love another 4-6 civs, 16 civ/ huge maps are fun but would like to have it so it wasnt always the same 16, variety is the spice of life.

And what can i trade you for that spice of life,,,, i offer furs and 10 of your captured workers:egypt:

All of the above plus as many more as we can think of. Why wasn't "All of the Above" an option? And why are people picky as to "who belongs in civ"?

I think I'd rather drop the Americans, since they're just a mixture of all the European civs, and when playing on KoC's earth mod, they aren't included so you can colonize.

But i guess sales figures would prevent that happening.:p

won't even comment. But your second comment probably didn't hurt.

Because this game sucks ? :)

Are you suggesting I was attacking Americans in some way?

I was simply stating that I think it would be better to drop them for historical purposes, e.g. on the world map not to include them so the european civs go through a colonial era.

The final thing is that no matter how historical it is, americans probably wouldn't buy the game if the Americans weren't in it, and since Firaxis is like any other company, it wouldn't make a decision that would hurt sales.

Sorry if I offended you.:(

I like to see much more civs than these few possibilities

Mayans or Mayas (i dunno how English spells this central-american civilization), and Incas. I havent't any idea for specific units or leaders, but especially Incas had much greater impact on history than, for example, Iroquis.

Some Uzbeg or Central Asian civilization: In civ1 the mongols represented this civilization with the capital Samarkand. Maybe Timur Lenk could be the leader, and some camel-riding soldiers could be the special units.

A Malaysian or Indonese civilization, with (for example) Sukarno for leader. I've no idea for special unit, maybe some naval unit could be.

Turkish civ, with Suleiman as leader and Jenissary as special unit.

Ethiopian. I've no idea for leader or specific unit.

A Thai or a Vietnamese civilization. We can find out some leader. The special unit would be similar to the Indian war elephant.

Suaheli. This wasn't the right name, but on the place of the today's Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique was a state, with an advanced cultura. Arabs influenced it, but it was independent until the Portuguais destroyed it.

I could glad for some modern civilizations. When the USA is in, then why Brazil, Mexico, Australia, Nigeria not?. Izrael isn't necessary, this is an Anglo-Saxon city, in fact (The today's USA, Great Britain, Canada, Australia together - they are almost one great civilization, with the same form of government, language, culture and foreign politics.). I wouldn't hurt! Please, excuse me, if i insulted someone.

Please, take back the Carthaginians!
And naturally, we need Mongols, Spains, Arabians, maybe Portuguais, Dutch.
