While We Wait: Part 4

Hacker is a absolute feckwit.

To be honest, the "ruleset" for players in our OTL India, Europe, and China from 500-1700 would be COMPLETELY different for each area.

Three completely different examples of state creation there, and all operating under different political and economic arrangements.

Not necessarily; there were enough similarities to work out a system for pre-modern states in general, which is what I hope to achieve for the Iron Age project, more or less.

So Das... your take on the Russian "elections"? Anything you can tell us that won't earn you the same fate as Russia free press and journalists of course ;).

EDIT: Bah, looks as though you touched on it earlier. Still, I'd like to hear your whole take on the situation.

Meh, don't have anything in particular, other than some general gloating at our free press and journalists (though I don't recall anything in particular happening to them; care to fill me in?).

I've forgotten the statistics, but I do remember watching a report on either CNN or MSNBC in which a guy who once ran a newspaper or something, had a wall full of pictures of journalists that had disappeared since Putin started having them all mysteriously assassinated. Russia is gaining a pretty bad reputation for killing anyone who shows any signs of dissidence. Remember the guy who was poisoned with radioactive polonium in Britain?

Here's some relevant BBC stories:

I don't find any of that particularly trustworthy. Conspiracy theories are conspiracy theories.

I'm willing to give some benefit of doubt on the matter of Litvinenko, but those journalists are really not worth the bother, from what I recall of that kind of press and its materials.

In the other news, according to Wikipedia, Medvedev is very fond of Russian Internet slang. Oh my God what have we done we have elected a monster. ;)

-Victorious nations completely annexing the losers of wars.
While there are several instances of such in the more ancient times and in wars between the less civilized peoples, yes, this is generally inapplicable.

And how did you find that little tidbit out, das?

As said, Wikipedia, plus several Russian articles. He also seems to be fond of the related [wiki]Preved[/wiki] meme. Scary! :p

Though I suppose that, as far as presidential peculiarities go, it's rather more healthy than Yeltsin's binges.

Pshh. Wikipedia and reading posts. It's like you don't know me at all.

As for Preved, wouldn't that be embarrassing for him?

Apparently not. His (impressive) online fanbase really likes it, too. Besides, it's "Preved Medved", so it's a pretty obvious pun that we (the Russians, not you) will never hear the end of.

At least you don't have to deal with Donny Osmond and the Shandong Province Isopods.

Well, you elect a 42-year old into power, and this is what you get.

Preved? Darn polar bears interjecting themselves into a Russian election YET again.

Nah, it's the penguins. Polar bears aren't that evil.

 There's really very little doubt anymore; there's obvious connections with dissident activity and a less than positive personal relationship with Putin and the KGB itself.

You ever heard the quote that starts "First they came for the jews, but I was not a jew, so I did not speak up?". Journalists being murdered and kidnapped is not a good sign for civil rights or press freedom in your country :p.

And I too fear the day our internet generation gets into politics. Be glad your election wasn't wrought with the "Moskau!" song and video :p.
