I have no problem to use the whip usually when cities are working medium yield tiles. However, during a Golden age most tiles seems good to work. Are your whips still dripping as much blood as usual?

Well tiles will have bigger yields during a golden age. Whipping away a 4/5H tile is not so great. Pends also on your great people strategy. Of course if a city is still growing and needs key builds quickly maybe that is acceptable? Food cities still maturing?

However you don't 4 pop whip your capital or key GP farm 1 turn before GA if you want to run specialists. Sometimes it's best to wait 2-3 turns to get your key cities to the right size.

Sometimes I may run a golden age if I am spamming cuirs for faster conquest. This can help the push for engineering while at war whilst saving your gold. Of course by this stage in most game I have already run at least 1 golden age. Like most things you should always have a plan.

If one starts a Golden Age to do civics and state religion changes, and one civic change is Slavery, one definitely should whip as must as possible before switching back to Caste System.

Normally, one should avoid whipping in a Golden Age.

Some players go into negative Fpt to run as many specialists as possible for the +100% Great People per turn bonus of a Golden Age. The only plots one works to support these specialists are farms and other high food plots.

Assuming, one isn't focused on Great People generation, one probably should work plots with both Commerce and Hammers, so one gets both +1 Cpt and +1 Hpt for working each such Commerce&Hammer plot.

I would say "builder" GAs usually include Caste (ideally Paci too) for great peoples generation, and whips are not possible.

But there are also those that can be useful during war times (as mentioned) or while building stacks, and here i still whip when it benefits my unit production. With granaries food is still stronger than let's say either green or brown mines (4 or 5h, with green ones deserving more consideration), so whipping can still make good sense.

It's nice if you can whip with overflow, and then build another unit quickly afterwards with the extra hammers from GA.
And there are those cities that gain enuf hammers (and are more built for prod than food), where you can now build units rather fast without whips. Those can often save their population for later.
You get some more possibilities for sure, and it's worth checking all cities during golden ages :)

If a Golden Age is started to produce units via a switch to Slavery, it obviously makes sense to switch to Vassalage and Theocracy at the same time. Prior to the end of the GA, the previous civics can be restored.

Golden Ages can be used in many different ways, including some that made sense only under unusual circumstances.

Quite often, one might switch to Slavery to whip things in a GA, such as Cathedrals in a Traditional Cultural Victory.
