Do you guys always pick the same civ. every time you play. Well I do. I know that there all the same but I always pick the Spanish. The main reason is that they are yellow, which is the best colour. This is because, blue (Germans, French...) blends into the sea on the little map, the green (Zulu, Babalonians...) blends into the land, white blends into the moving unit, and light blue just looks crap. So it's either orange or yellow. And 'cause the Spanish were so good at exploring and founding colonies ( my fav. part of the game ) I usually pick them. So except for you Americans, Brits and maybe Chinese, who's choices are obvious, who do you pick and how come?

While I never play the same civilization I really like to play civs. that died out over time especially the Aztecs and Babylonians, it's fun to see how history works out when the Aztecs are nuking the Americans in 2014!

I often take the greeks because I like the colour. I sometimes take the French too because I'm French altough the coulour sucks.

To avoid that confusing blue colour, I often chose the greeks and then change the tribe name, adjective, etc...

I always tend to create my "own" civilisation. That is not to say that I just make someone up, but I tend to go for historical civilisation not present among the "common choices". The Ottoman and Seljuk Turks, the Byzantine Empire, the Dutch, the Koreans and such...

I like English because the colour orange always stands out so well and can't be confused with anything else. But I always change the city names to something geographically useful.

I also like the Vikings just for the city names, which I find "romantic" and which I usually keep.

I usually play one of three civs - Rivans, Vikings or Greeks.
Rivans because it's a civ in my favourite books (the Belgariad by D. Eddings), Vikings because I'm from the land of the old Vikings and finally the Greeks because, well, I've been there six times.

Chinese (I'm Chinese?)

vikings, but i hate the blue color.

Just a little curious side-question for Håkon here...

( also being a fan of Eddings books )

How do you manage to come up with any number of possible cities?? If you were to strictly use the *Rivan* cities that wouldn't make for an awful lot now would it? Or do use all the Alorns or even wider than that? Just curious, feel free to sicc me if anyone finds this post bothersome...

Well any white Civ would be the obvious choice to most players since that is really the color that is easiest to spot and well if you don't care what you play and just press enter then you also get to play a white Civ!!!

But I usually play any of the Orange Civs because I like them and they were all great empire building civilizations!!!

I tend to take a purple civ and give them a new name, as I dont care to play opposite any of the three purple civs run by the AI.

Ye, i totally agree with Magnus from Mass. - playing against either of the purple civ is really a rotten deal. I've renamed all of the Mongol cities to Lithuanian names so that i could modify the Mongol civ when i play purple and i wouldnt have to type all the city names by hand. Plus, i forget half of them anyway.

Do you guys ever have that thing when you found a city late in the game that you just cant come up with a name for it?

Happens to ecco all the time...

ROMANS ABOVE ALL I play 90% of times because the colour is easiest to spot , is one of the most powerfull civs of the ancient world that lasted for centuries and because I like Roman History...
Then Greeks , Egyptians, Aztecs and vikings that from my point of view are the most beautifull civs o... Japaneese too!

Thank you, CornMaster.

Does anyone besides me have problems with the names of the Aztec civilization? The first few are so alike I can't tell who supports what without renaming them - also, even as an enemey civ, its difficult getting the caravans to the right city with them!

No Problem. I started that poll almost a year ago.

I prefer Germans. Why??? Because their names turn into food so easily!!! Hamburg = Hamburger, Frankfurt = FranksandBeans, or just Franks, Munich = Munchies.
