...which sucks for new players of the franchise, for sure.
I don't know. I consider it a favor they locked Napoleon behind a 2K account; I've never felt more incentivized not to link accounts. :mischief:

One persona is for linking your account; the other persona is for having Civ6 linked to the same account.

There could be a third persona included in the base game. In my opinion, the statement is somewhat ambiguous.

I highly doubt it. I don't need any Napoleon, but I don't think anyone needs or wants three Napoleons.

They want new players to spring for a copy of Civ 6 just to unlock Revolutionary Napoleon, I guess. I assume it will probably be on sale fairly regularly after Civ 7 comes out.

It’s essentially a loyalty reward. I strongly doubt that anyone who particularly wants Revolutionary Napoléon doesn’t already own Civ 6.

Catch 'em all!

So I'm getting some weird vibes from the independent powers. Yes, we know that city-states used to be placeholders for future civs, but I feel like there may be something more interrelated with the civs we already have. Maybe. The evidence is very thin right now.

Specifically, the Funan and Soninke. We already know Khmer is in base game, and the Funan act as kind of like an encompassing "proto-Khmer" for the region (where Khmer currently is serving as the "well-font" for that region). And if we end up seeing Wagadu/Ghana in base game, the Soninke will be the same for that. It's possible the Olmec could be that for the Maya too, even if that is a bit of a stretch.

Other IPs we have seen would function similarly if we end up seeing some civs in game. I can definitely point toward Urartu for antiquity Armenia if that happens, and then if we extrapolate this idea for exploration, Magyars seem very proto-Hungary (if Hungary returns) and Mixtec possibly proto-Aztec.

What I'm getting at, is if we see more IPs, particularly in antiquity, that seem to feel like the prototypical nomadic version of specifically an antiquity civ in the game, I'm curious if there will be a sort of evolutionary relationship between them. Like, say, if Khmer is not in your game but the Funan are, maybe they can evolve into Khmer under the right circumstances. Would be a mechanical clusterf, but it makes me very curious, so keep eyes out for stuff like Latins, Qadans, D'mt/Sabaea, Harappans, Xia/Shang, etc.).

People who never played a Civ game before, be it for age or other reasons, could in more than theory be interested in Napoleon and want to play his Revolutionary persona. ;)

Hey just confirming one thing, is Napoleon as whole the 2K account register bonus or that is just his persona and he is in the base game?
I had the impression I read somewhere it said Napoleon was only available as part of the account liking, as in, no version of him in the base game. But can't find that anywhere now, so it is likely I may be misremembering it...

Yeah I think he is like Julius Caesar in Civ 6 - exclusively an incentive to link ones 2K account. Only now they are offering an extra persona to people who own the previous game.

I strongly doubt there will be a third version of Bonaparte.

2k Games: All your Bonaparte are belong to us
Actually, some maniacal modder could produce quite a few 'Napoleons' from the Bonaparte family.

Let's see:

Napoleon I - Emperor of the French, also King of Italy 1805 to 1814 (already in the game)
Napoleon II (his son) Emperor of the French, also King of Italy at birth
Louis I Bonaparte - King of Holland 1806 - 1810
Louis II Bonaparte - King of Holland 1810, also Grand Duke of Berg 1809 - 1813
Joseph I Bonaparte - King of Naples, King of Spain 1808 - 1813
Jerome I Bonaparte - King of Westphalia 1807 - 1813
Elisa Bonaparte - Grand Duchess of Tuscany 1809 - 1814

- And that's before we even get to semi-distant relatives, wives and their adopted children or Napoleon III or the Bonapartes that got involved in a Corsican Independence Movement in the 1990s that included restoration of a Bonaparte Monarchy!

Linking your 2K account gives you both Napoleons in 7. If you own 6 it gives you Julius Caesar in 6.
Linking your account gives you one Napoleon; linking your account that is also linked to Civ6 gives you the other Napoleon (and Julius Caesar and Scout Cats in Civ6).

What was the line about Louis Napoleon? All world-historic events and personages appear twice, first as tragedy, next as farce.

Not sure what the fifth and sixth appearances are. Musical theater?
Isn't it sometimes first as farce, and next as tragedy too? Like Hitler? (though pretty sure he would have done musical theatre at some point too)

Fifth and sixth appearances of Louis Napoleon I'm pretty sure would be Monty Python's Flying Circus - call that musical comedy or tragedy or what you will. . .
