Age is irrelevant. It's just a matter of stupidity. Stupid people believe that the world is only one or the other (Ann Coulter said exactly that). Nonstupid people realize the world is bigger than two meaningless ideologies.
At whatever age you start to repeat your parents political and religious positions, or for the rebels out there, the age they start to repeat the exact opposite of their parents political and religious positions.
Not all of us are liberals or conservatives. I personally have no love for extremists of any stripe. There are a few of us who are wise enough to think for ourselves by being savvy enough to choose the best parts of all the political positions, filter with logic, add a dash of sympathy for your fellow man, and apply generously to your daily life.
Your problem is that you're taking your experiences in this forum, where people love to judge and crave judgement and extrapolating that for the whole of the US population.
It would be like judging Americans as a whole based on whatever the current crappy pop culture export is that's popular oversees. IE "Dallas" in the 80s.
The reality is most Americans are either indifferent (see our voter turnouts) or some flavor of "middle".
