Just that - why do most people here seem to be quite intelligent and moderate, sixchan, DaeEzt and I seem to be the exception that proves the rule.

The only idea I have is that those who are intelligent more likely to be introverts when young (dont know why), introverts play computer games, those who plasy computer games post here.

However most people don't appear to be introverts either (though it is hard to tell exactly what is true about people)

Anyway what are your thoughts on this.

I am honored to be part of your "research"

you should start this thread in a CS forum, that would give an interesting discussion :D

I'm not sure whether your saying that people who 'spam' are less intelligent. I think you will find that older people tent to be able to discuss things better because they do have more experience and can call on these when they are debating with someone.

I think people here may be more intelligent because Civ 2 is a complex game which means that more intelligent people are likely to play it. You could improve your posts without upgrading your brain by taking more time to elimate silly spelling mistakes.

Glad I'm not in the research...

Im not sure whether this was intentional Dell but

elimate silly spelling mistakes

Btw DaE - like me sig addition?

No offense, but the only reason why people might come off as more intelligent than the average person, is because that's what they chose to share here. I think you'd be truely amazed at the brainpower of "typical cheerleaders." They are every bit as intelligent, however why should they even bother showing it? They don't have to, that's the point. What makes them happy, isn't all about being smarter, so they don't have to share that part of their lives as frequently as other people might. The people here, not to insult them, aren't exactly the cheerleader crowd. I'm sure they're exceptions, but for the most part, the people here prolly don't get their jollies off of the same things a cheerleader type peple would, therefor, obviously, show a different side of themselves. That doesn't mean they are smarter, it just means that they like to fit that niche.

Chess players on average are usually the cream of any crop of people. It just so happens that the groups that enjoy civ share quite a large amount of people that are chess enthusiasts. Logically that means that civers are going to be like their chess brethren more intelligent than your average Joe.

Also the sad facts:
At least for civers that are young enough to have grown up in a household with the internet (under 25ish):

Wealthier families have more computers, internet access, (and computer games) per capita. Wealthier families' children are often better schooled and brought up to go to college. This makes for a more intelligent adult (on average). Since this adult (on average) had exposure to computers as a child he probably buys one, gets internet access, and buys a game (perhaps civ).

Civers are more intelligent because for the most part less inteligent people get sorted out.

Less intelligent = less money (on average) = less computer related items

THEN AGAIN ALL THIS IS SPECULATION, it just a bunch of relatively educated guesses

Iam really impressed by you guys.

But is their somebody here who have played civ1 or civ2 on deity level and won the game ???? (Please dont lie, I can tell) ;) :D

I tried but I failed misserable, when I got knights the enemy stood before my city gates with tanks (SNIF SNIF SNIF)

Just look at some the succession games I play...I kick ass at diety...I don't lose vs A.I she just ain't got it.

I do get thrills from watching cheerleaders...:crazyeyes so I'm in that crowd but oggling :)

SMARTASS POINT: deity in civ1...jeez u noobie

:p

We'll sure that was a smartass remark ;) ;) ;) But your forgiven.

You really got to know how long ago it was when I last played Civ "Numbero Uno", i think it was a year of five ago.
And because I got a memory like a gold-fish (they only remember about 5 seconds) you should guess that I already was forgoten how manny diverent lvls you got in Civ 1.

About that other point you gotta cheat to win on Deity lvl iam sure. The first three lvls are playable without cheating, but the rest I doubt that you could win without cheating.

OR IAM I WRONG ?!?!?!?!

OR IAM I WRONG ?!?!?!?!

YOU ARE WRONG.

With experience ,it is easy to win at deity level. It is depended though on youre starting position & homeland ,number of opponents ant their homelands,...
If you play on deity on a real world map and you begin for ex. on Japan ,consider yourself lost.

I'd say a good lot of people here are introverts in a real world sense. Being outgoing behind a computer screen and being outgoing in real life are two different things.

For instance, I am pretty much an introvert in real life. I don't like crowds, loud noises and I have a small circle of people I am in contact with. Online I'm a different guy. Not personality wise, but as far as how many people I associate and coversate with.

Can't beat levels higher than king without cheating vanoranje?

I am doing that now (world.mp, deity and I started on japan...simply get map-making and get the horsies popping the asian huts)...I can send you over my save so far...I'm rocking!

...as I said read the succession games I'm in...they are diety and we are winning (and have won...succession 3 at diety...the A.I is so lame at war that it is easy to win!)

Don't think that because you suck that I do!

:D

P.S it is deity...when I first played civ2 i played on deity because a friend told me that otherwise I'd find it too easy...correcto!

Mapmaking OK ,but withought goody huts that takes quite some time to research. And do you have the Chinese next to you?
And how is youre homeland looking like? lot's of whale's? Some Silk, Some hils? can you attach a print screen of youre homeland.

i just wanted to state that some situations are impossibel to win on Deity. If you have won with japan try to start on the north pole for example (one full of glaciers) ,or in the middle of the Sahara.

This is a Civ II forum , right? My experience tells me Civ II is not played by dumb people, but by (more) intelligent people. Civ II is all about tactics, strategy and patience. Less intelligent people like shooters better, because one uses more his instincts and less his brain. That's what I think.

I'll post my game here tomorrow for ya to look at...I was only mucking around b4 bed with it so haven't done much...but I am rocking!

No chinese nearby...but we have Indians!!!

I play civ2 VERY well and am an excellent first person shooter player aswell...counter-strike is best played by people with excellent situation awareness and who can out-think their opposition...there is a place for the lightening reflexes but the best players will have a combination...

Quake III, no respect for players of that though :p

Well said.

Sometimes I like to shoot em up a little too, though!:D

Well, I was playing this game casually b4 bed and this thread gave a reason to post it!

Attached is a zip with about 10 of my game saves...

P.S barbarians are raging hordes...in siberia 3 villages popped lead to a horde of 24 horsemen against me!

Other things: I don't use bribe city...

There are many MUCH better players than I, out there, but even I can do this quite regularly. You've just got to know how to do it, what little tricks you can use, etc. . .

Ever heard of OCC? (one city challenge?) How about size 1 city (can't let it grow past size 1) once city, located on a polar ice cap, small map, 7 civs, diety, raging hords . . first to alpha centauri. It sounds crazy, but it's actually rather easy, if you know how the tricks. :)

To Kitten:

I have looked at youre game/scenario.
It was still considerily easy to win that game. You had almost no enemy's aroud you ,except the indians and we all know what warmongers they are.
no offence though.

I gona give you a harder nutschell to crack.try to play as a civ placed on iceland on a normal scale european map including the normans (norway) ,french, germans, spannish, romans and englisch and russian on their respective posistions. This on a flat map where nothing outside europe is included. (no north africa nore east America) I's still winnable i know ,only a bit harder.
