why are the release dates different for uk?

i know this is common for games, but why is the uk release later!!! i find it to be the most annoying thing. really puts me off buying games on day one.

I don't see much of an issue in this actually as it's not an mmo with an shared server or something like this. (From Germany myself and also have to wait)

You will probably be able to download a demo at US release though, which might easen your waiting time.

The explanation is quite simple:

The brick and mortar stores have certain delivery days (from their distributors). These days are set and don't get moved around, hence US stores (almost) always have new releases on Tuesdays, while European stores have releases on Fridays.

Since 2K doesn't want to catch flak from these retail chains for treating them badly, they delay the digital release to allow for a simultaneous release.

This. 2K still has to cater to retail publishers since that is where a majority of their sales come from (although this is slowly changing). If they cut retail stores out by releasing early/releasing on a date where retail stores are not prepared to handle them, then they'd endanger all their future releases.
