Why can't I build *some* cathedrals?

As you can see from the screenshot, there are 4 types of cathedrals I (sort of) can build, in this city, but 2 are disabled. For the Hindu Mandir there's an explanation of why I can't build it, but for the Christian Cathedral, there's none. So why can't I build the Christian one? My religion civic is Organized Religion and my state religion is Hinduism. As you can see, I have the ability to build multiple types of cathedrals anyway.

You've got as many Christian Cathedrals already build or scheduled to be build as your amount of Temples can support, so the game won't allow you to schedule another one to be build in this city. If you remove a Cathedral from another city's building list you'll be able to build one in that city.

I've seen this before. I think the issue is that you have met the temple requirement for a new Christian Cathedral and actually have one in process in one of your cities. Whereas, you have not met the temple requirement for a Mandir nor have one in process as a result. So the red text only appears when the temple requirement for a new Cathedral (or whatever) has not been met currently.

So technically, you can build multiple Cathedral type buildings simultaneously if you have the requisite number of temples built (6, 9, 12, etc.). But the red text only appears when there is a need for 3 temples for a single building currently.

The full definition would be this: A cathedral-style building is a minor national wonder.
As with national wonders, you need a required number of support buildings to unlock building one. In case of cathedrals, 3 temples of that religion, per cathedral.
Thus, with 1-2 temples you can build no cathedrals, with 3-5 you can build one cathedral, with 6 temples - two cathedrals, with 9 temples - three cathedrals etc.
Each cathedral is like a wonder in a sense that if you start building it in one city, you can't build it in another if you don't meet the new requirements.

Thus, if you have 6 temples, have one cathedral already built, you can queue up the next one in only one city. That's why there's no "red text", because you technically meet the required number of temples, but it's somewhere already in queue.

There might be something in what you say. I see I've already got a Christian Cathedral on my domestic listing. Damn. Well, this brings me to a much more important question, which I think deserves its own thread: https://forums.civfanatics.com/thre...-and-temple-requirements-to-make-more.640511/

BTW, someone said I can remove a building from a building list. How do I do that? From what I can tell, once a building has been built, it's there and it stays there, unless you remove all the military units in the city then somehow entice and enemy to take it over (unlike previous Civs where you make cash quick and dirty by selling buildings).

I was referring to removing a cathedral from a city's list of queued up buildings, selling completed buildings in Civ 4 isn't possible.

Yep, I was referring to having a Christian Cathedral in the process of building in one of your cities. That is, the Cathedral is in the build queue of one of your cities - maybe you forgot.

As AcaMetis said, you cannot remove buildings or sell for cash in this game. IV requires more in depth planning for builds. However, easy cash is far more accessible in this game.

Cathedrals work exactly like Traders. You have a max number of traders your civ will support (policy cards + govt type +wonder +commercial/harbor district). Once you start building the last of your traders, the build trader will be disabled for all other cities, and stay disabled unless you gain a Trader slot or stop building the Trader and switch build to another city.

Traders? There are no traders in CIV IV. Is this something from CIV VI?

Heretics ;)
