[RR] Why can't I deliver goods between these two cities?

This is driving me crazy. I can't ship from New York to Trenton. Trenton is blacked out, even though I have a direct rail link between New York and Trenton.

I'm not the only one who has had this problem:

"When choosing a route for a particular train, players are taken to a map that shows the available towns with depots. These towns are displayed as small circles. Players choose the towns in the order they want their trains to make stops in them. The problem arises when certain towns can’t be chosen for the route. For instance, many times I had a straight line of track between three or four towns, A-B-C-D. For some reason, I could choose a route from A-C, but not from B-C. Sometimes it would let me choose A-C or –D, then back again to B. The manual only stated that a possible reason for this could be a lack of a clear route for the train. This wasn’t the case, as this particular track was a straight, continuous line with no interruptions, sharp turns or Y breaks. There would be no visible difference between this section of track, and another identical one that would allow this type of travel. I don’t know if this problem was due to some type of bug, or if there was something about the signals at the depots failing to connect correctly with the track as laid down. The manual doesn’t say. The only solution is to delete the trains and tracks, and try again. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn’t. The forums have a few people reporting the same problems, but so far no one has suggested anything that works besides deleting track and rebuilding."

I do wish I had the answer for you, I had high hopes SM would have a great Railroad game, but alas, it was notto be.

I have asked this and many other questions, have never gotten an anwer eitheer.

I dont want to be a cold water committee member, just echoing your frustration with inability to obtain a work around.

This happens if say you originaly told the train to go to another city. It will then "virtualy" place itself on the track and so when you delete the other stop it will still be on the wrong track.

Either that or the connection is not really complete.

PS: I have never encountered a bug that truly prevents me from delivering to a city, in all cases it was because I had encountered what I mention in this post.

The only times I remember having situations similar to the OP's was when the track was not connected. Usually it was just a tiny error on my part when laying the track that caused the problem. Sometimes when the remedy to the mistake was too elusive I would just tear out the track and rebuild it.

i had a similar problem.i cant deliver supplyA from cityA to cityB but i can do it to cityC and only way to go to cityC from cityA is to go through cityB.

i may have solved the problem
there must be grey, flat parts on the track near the terminal on the city you want to deliver to.
(apologies for english. its not my native language)

I just dove into this game tonight, playing it in multiplayer with my wife. We both had a few instances where trains wouldn't seem to go where we wanted, but in each case, it was due to user error.

I had this happen to me and fixed it by putting in some track that made the route more direct. What I mean by that is the route would have required the train to double-back on itself to get around a corner, I made a direct line, went back to the screen and the station was then available (no longer blacked out).

Hope this helps.

I think you need to upgrade your depot to a station. The depot only can handle 3 lines. And yes you need to make sure the track infront of the station has cement around it. I kept deleteing and recreating the same track and it would never get the cement under it, but it was my 4th track at that depot. Once i upgraded to a station, then the 4th track would get the cement and would start working.

I hope this works but i have not had this issue since i have been playing with that approch.

I had the same problem and discovered it was due to a track problem at one of my stations. I had a town where I had been sloppy about where I placed the station - it was at the very end of the concrete "loading" track. The town was in a very tight spot and I needed a double track that would curve immediately. When I went to add a double track, I couldn't extend it far enough to overlap the station and still get the curve I needed, so the track was just normal track (not concrete). So check your stations. Are all the "loading" tracks in front of the station concrete?

I've seen the problem arise in three instances:

1. Like I just described - the track in front of the station is a regular track (a through track) instead of a concrete (loading) track.

2. Too many loading tracks at a non-Terminal station.

3. No through connection at an intermediate station. The train configuration map can make it look like two towns are connected when they really are not. For example, I had a game recently where I couldn't get from NY to Washington directly even though I had track running all the way. When I looked at Baltimore, however, I realized that I had laid my track there in such a way as to break up the continuous run from NY. I could get from NY to Baltimore and from Baltimore to Washington, but I had laid my track in such a way that I had to stop in Baltimore.

Bottom line is that every time I've had this happen, I was able to find a Quueg-made reason.

I'm not the only one who has had this problem:

From the image you posted, the track going from New York to Trenton goes to the wrong side of the station. Create a third track line from the Trenton Station to the track coming down form New York and it will connect just fine.
