.Started smoking tobacco in college. There would be a lot of work to do, and late into the night of crunch time, people would go off to take smoke breaks. They would come back all relaxed and energized and ready to go, so I was like, ****, this stuff helps you do work. Thus it started.

it wasn't peer pressure per se, but ..
there was a girl i wanted to try to talk to but didn't know how to start a conversation so i asked her for a cigarette. i only knew her for a week or two, but i kept the habit for 23 years before i finally quit six months ago.

Actually, when I think about, I might have been the teen that makes peer pressure so that my friends would do it too.... hmm.
I was the first of my group of friends to try weed, I was about 13 or 14. I did it because of anti drug advertisements that pict up my curiosity. Weirdly enough the add had the opposite effect then its purpose.
At first I really liked it and I wanted my friends to share the experience, so I tried to convince them to try it with me.
Am I actually the bad teenager in anti drug adds?

I tried it once but it was a cigarette dippedin PCP and I tell you man I became so weak and relaxed I couldn't move. Compounded with weed it could have been very relaxing. But I believe its a mental state thing. I've never had a bad trip either but I guess if while on a mind altering as powerful as PCP if a person pissed you off you could rip them limb from limb.

I think the recent D.A.R.E. initiatives and such are actually working - I go to a public school in a fairly poor and crime-laden section of Seattle, but even here the peer pressure is shockingly anti-smoking.
That said, other drugs and alcohol don't take peer pressure so much as curiosity.
this fact helped me quit. as i got older and especially the last couple years i've had more and more friends who hated my smoking.
it's kind of funny to think about it, that in my previous post i blamed the start of my habit on a girl i had met who smoked. the end of my habit has much to do with a more recent girl i met who does not smoke

I stared weed cuz my friends did, so I thought I might as well try it.
Smoking I never started because I didn't see the point.
