The cynical answer is that the reason for this is two-fold:

a) being surrounded by those less attractive then you makes you more attractive
b) being with a group makes you less of a target for marauding males seeking a mate

There is actally an entire profession in America called the "wingman" whose purpose is to escort a male looking for a mate and to start talking with the ugly friends of whoever the main guy is targetting, thus reducing her to lone female status.

Because its tradition. Its the general custom for a fit girl to hang aroung a minger, because it fits the typical stereotype (at least thats what I reckon). Last week in a club I saw it and also in a pub.

People DO say things like that sometimes, when its not true.

It doesn't mean they're a "weirdo" or anything...

It can be from mental issues and the likes, and is often very bad, and horrible, for the person who is doing it...

Yes, by 'weirdo' i meant having mental issues. I have known people who made up that they had plans to kill themselves. Making up that his girlfriend was raped is not particularly in good taste either. I am not examining here what caused such behaviour, but keep in mind that some people actually bothered to write in his thread about the raped gf.
