why do my ICBMs keep exploding?

no, the other civs neither had a SDI, nor spies etc. - i have already eliminated all this possibilities. I have all necessary resources and techs at my disposal but still:
"<playername> has started an ICBM but it exploded"

somebody knows whats going on?
 
Or they dont know how to handle that nasty hardwares sometime things like this happen. Getting other techs that have something to do with phyics and other useful techs could help out without spilling waste on your lands.
 
nope, i tried some things with the editor (dont know what its called in english) - gave me all techs, placed all buildings possible in one town and built the icbms there, the other civs were still somewhere in the stone ages etc. - still, they keep exploding after launch. the funny thing is, the neighborhood of the town the icbm was supposed to hit is actually contaminated and the town itself dimishes by about 2-3 or so, but i get this message (something like "icbm started but has exploded") and dont see a mushroom :sad: :nuke:
 
Have you had the problem in a "normal" game, where you did not tinkle with the editor ? Because maybe it's just a question of not having all the requirements to launch them successfully...
 
It means the ICBM was successful. Look at the target. When an ICBM is successful it says:

John Doe launces an ICBM and it explodes!

That's a good thing...well, if you're the one doing the launching.
