I've noticed in many games lately, once the AI gets mad at you (furious) for whatever reason (in my case, I was in a military alliance to crush the petty americans and after 8 turns the war weariness was too much, and the americans had only 2 cities left anyways so I accepted their demands for peace...presto ALL the AI's are furious with me, even tho they too made peace the same turn.)
Anyhow, when the AI gets mad at you it seems to last permanently. Is there no way to repair relations? This all happened back in 900 A.D., I'm now up to 1785 A.D. and they're all still furious, even though I've been gifting them free technologies, resources, luxuries, maps, etc. They're still mad. Do they ever get over it? If so, how to do so?
I'm starting to think that getting into a Military alliance in any game is a BAD thing, as a democracy cannot afford to remain in a war for 20 turns. You'd lose control of the government before that, even with all eight luxuries, the luxury resource slider at 40%, and all the happiness improvements built in all cities.
