Why does the AI hate you for forever and a half? Silly...

I've noticed in many games lately, once the AI gets mad at you (furious) for whatever reason (in my case, I was in a military alliance to crush the petty americans and after 8 turns the war weariness was too much, and the americans had only 2 cities left anyways so I accepted their demands for peace...presto ALL the AI's are furious with me, even tho they too made peace the same turn.)

Anyhow, when the AI gets mad at you it seems to last permanently. Is there no way to repair relations? This all happened back in 900 A.D., I'm now up to 1785 A.D. and they're all still furious, even though I've been gifting them free technologies, resources, luxuries, maps, etc. They're still mad. Do they ever get over it? If so, how to do so?

I'm starting to think that getting into a Military alliance in any game is a BAD thing, as a democracy cannot afford to remain in a war for 20 turns. You'd lose control of the government before that, even with all eight luxuries, the luxury resource slider at 40%, and all the happiness improvements built in all cities.

When pushing for a war under democracy, make sure you either have the military to wipe them off the planet, or make a quick strike and make peace. Both of these need to be done ASAP.

Waging any but the smallest war against the AI will indeed make them furious for quite a while, more of a reason for you to destroy them. Braking alliances, however, will make at least two civilizations mad at you instead of only one.

Getting in a military alliance under democracy is indeed very risky, but waging wars on your own is not that big of a deal. Once you reach that industrial era, beware of all MPPs and military alliances offered to you, since they will most likely turn against you.

...assuming this all is played on difficulty levels where you are level with the AI or have a tech (and general) lead in the game.

This is yet another AI cheat to screw the human.

I have seen AI civs allied to me make a separate peace with our enemy and yet suffer no reputation hit.

Meanwhile, I get blamed for stuff I never even did, or I get ATTACKED by a civ, which later makes peace. A thousand years later a civ I just met on a new continent hates me for what I supposedly did to that civ that attacked me.

It makes no sense whatsoever. . . until you realize it is all just another AI cheat. But that doesn't make sense either! :(
