Why don't our alpha males grow beards anymore?

I hope I can grow a good beard. Looking at my father, I'm afraid I can't.

Nowadays you're either clean-shaven or you have some sissy stubble.

its just style. beards were in during the mid 80's and fell out of fassion in the 90's
I look decent in a gotee but the rest of the beard was a bit thin when I grew it this past summer.
Who knows if somone popular were to grow a beard they might come back in style.
in a decade or so beards may make a comeback but I doubt it.

Maybe because it is now associated with Islam . Or maybe with terrorists .

Name the last president with a beard (hint: before the Russian Revolution). :)

I have a Lenin beard!

Lenin beard? That's alright. I could probably grow one of those, or a goatee of sorts, of even some fashionable stubble. But I want a 19th century, bushy, off-the-face beard.

The last U.S. President to have a beard (at least in his official portrait) would've been James Garfield.

Garfield also won the election with a slim margin of 10,000 votes.

Benjamin Harrison came after Garfield, and lost the popular vote.

I know that, but the Asians are significantly less hairy than most other people. I heard that in China, facial hair, specifically the "fu manchu"-type, was seen as a mark of a distinguished person since it took so damn long to grow.
Like this? :D

I assume by Asian you mean East Asian because there are alot of other people on that continent who are quite different.

How many of them are walking around?
That's the point. None. :(

In centuries past such a mug commanded respect. Awe. Fawning syncophants.

Today it gains you the attention of the police, thinking you're either a bum or a ruffian.

Thick facial hair is an evotionary trait that's being weeded out. Its not like we need facial hair for any reason.

Now I really wish female facial hair would be routed out once and for all. Even if its really thin peach fuzz I can get perturbed.

What? our leaders don't grow beards?? Whatever are you talking about??

I would hardly consider the OxiClean guy to be our leader.

I'd vote for him. His hand motions are magnetic.

And his expressions are wooden.

We alpha males prefer sexy stubble to accentuate our rugged against-the-grain style. Cigarettes are a useful accessory when not brooding in a steely gaze.

Seems to me that goatees/van dykes represent more aggressive behavior, while full beards seem more correlated with wisdom. This is all speculation of course, but then so is the thread...

I can't grow any substantial amount of facial hair no less a beard and I'm almost 20! I can go a week without having to shave. My mom comes from a Sikh Indian family and Sikh men are known for their full beards that often used to scare little children. I guess I inhereited some European mestrosexual facial hair genes from my dad's side of the family.
