Why don't we add the X-Seed 4000 as a wonder?

Should they add the X-Seed 4000 as a Wonder in a Future Patch?

I guess if someone now starts a thread at the 2K forums, demanding this as a wonder in combination with a Sailor Moon civ, then i know what we'll get next as DLC...

Ok I don't mind having El Dorado and all that stuff for some flavor, but if they made a Sailor Moon civ, I would uninstall my game and start a riot outside 2Ks headquarters.

The Cure for Cancer / longevity will be blocked by the government because they need people to die, we have too many. They already have the cure for cancer and aids you dolts.

Right we're dolts because we are not conspiracists...

On topic: Pesronally, I'd prefer we move away from the crazy science fiction stuff and move to something more realistic, cure for cancer is a near future technology (hopefully), but the GDR and this monumental building (which would I have to admit, be very cool to see in real life if it existed) aren't all that plausible in near future.

Spaceships? Are you serious, have you seen world budgets lately? The first one with a spaceship is going to be Bronson because no government is going to give money to that. NASA just got a nice slap on the wrist and even they don't have spaceships. And why should they? It so much easier to just blow up this planet rather than find a way to go blow up some other planet.

In the long run, it's space or death; no other choices possible. We either get people off this planet into viable colonies elsewhere or, sooner or later, a big rock comes along and scours the planet.

Also, what did NASA get penalized for (... just got a nice slap on the wrist ...)?

The Space Elevator is stupid and not cost effective and would be ripped to shreds by our planet, its atmosphere, and any foreign object from space that happened to be in its path.

Actually it's quite cost effective. That's why people are working so hard to make it a reality.

I saw an actuarial table one time that posited the total elimination of smoking and the assorted deaths caused by same. The result? Average human lifespan would go up by 4 years. Eliminating cancer would do roughly the same. People will still die, it'll just take 5 years longer (on average).

The X-Seed 4000 is only a concept and will die like 99.9% of building concepts. Some Architect thought it up to market their business and look how well it worked, it even got internet-time on a Civ forum of all places. The cost and breadth of that job is utterly unobtainable and pointless.

Arcologies will actually probably be built since we have this great habit of completely and utterly annihilating our own planet and one day that is the only place we'll be able to live, so I will let those alone.

So the X-Seed 4000, which is an arcology, is pointless, but arcologies will be built. So you're complaining about that specific arcology, not arcologies in general?

Giant Death Robots... well, I wish I could knock those off the list but the problem is China has a military and so do we, and so does Russia and India and all of those 13-year-old-boy-generals want the biggest killing toy out there, so inevitably someone will be running around with one of those one day as well.

They'll be knocked off as structurally impractical. One hit to the knee or hip and you can kiss your walking death machine goodbye. What I'd really pay to see is one of them try to stand up after falling down from, for instance, a slippery surface.

If they do put the X-Seed 4000 in as a Wonder, I would really like to see it cover the constructing city's hex and the 6 hexes surrounding it. At a minimum, it needs to totally cover the city hex.

If you want real wonders, just do a case study of our society. Things that would be a shoo-in:

The Social Networking Bureau

Electronics the size of a booger

Direct Internet access in your head

Screens on your eyes that stream porn

Seriously, all of these things are far more likely than the wonders they have.
simmer down.

The X-Seed 4000 "is never meant to be built," says Georges Binder, managing director of Buildings & Data, a firm which compiles data banks on buildings worldwide. "The purpose of the plan was to earn some recognition for the firm, and it worked."
that's from wiki. it was done to be a concept and get people talking about it, nothing more.

there are plenty of ideas for future wonders, the only problem is deciding what they would actually do in the game. in real life, they'd be postmodern, but in the game, future era is an okay description.
that being said, effect ideas for this aren't too bad. lhc, for example, sounds like it would have to be scientific and...well, there's no point in making a wonder that boosts research when there's just future tech left.

They could just make a DLC expansion for $15 that gives a future scenario, and expands the tech tree with new units and buildings. That way if you don't want it, don't buy it. Simple

I think this and related items should be added as a Mod, not necessarily into the main game itself. That or one of the expansion packs that would add futuristic wonders and projects.

But still, I think it'd be sweet to be able to build Planet Express in the year 3000.

Wow.... conspiracy theory much?

I allow as how I am a dolt. There are plenty of smarter people and better players than I am here on these forums.

Perhaps you could explain to me why politicians would sit on something that could spare the lives and suffering of loved ones , themselves, and contributers when they could "discover " it in the National Archives (or wherever )and at the same time gain loyalty to their party for the rest of the voters' lives? Or why civil servants and beareaucrats in the same situation wouldn't leak it and become a national hero?

I hope you're right about the cure for cancer. My Dad could really use it.

Good to see there are some complete and total nutters still out there...

That building is really cool. Perhaps it could be analogous to the Space Race/Utopia Project as the final goal in an "Economic Victory." I always thought the games were missing an economic domination path, though I suppose that's kinda what the Briber- er, I mean Diplomatic Victory is.

Yeah, the Diplomatic Victory needs an overhaul... I mean its probably the most realistic victory condition, I can't see the World being united under anything else but large piles of Gold, but I mean... Really? A Victory which is essentially bribing everyone?

Damn that building would look cool though on Civ V. Though it would have to take up a tile on it's own... Maybe it could be like a Natural Wonder and players get +1 happiness for just seeing it?

THIS would be the Natural Wonder that gives +1 happy for just seeing it

GDR? no no... two words: Metal Gear! (launches nukes at you with railgun as well crush you) :scan:

I would like to see the "future" matter in more games. Too many games are done before 1950 or so.

No no...

I can see the Conservapedia page on this already:

"No Religion and a Wonder simply entiled "Porn Goggles" that gives infinite happiness, what is the World Coming to?!"

Or:

"The Civilization Franchise: From a Cure to Cancer to Porn Goggles, the tale of the changing face of the ultimate goal of mankind in the first decade of the 21st Century"

They already have the cure for cancer and aids you dolts.
This is where your argument fell apart. Making a statement that is off-topic, and then providing no references, is an almost surefire way to have your argument dismissed. Pair that with insulting your audience, arbitrary statistics, and an obvious ignorance of the very things you are criticizing... I couldn't take anything in the argument as being a serious statement.

Negative, Ghost Rider. GDR's are both cost ineffective and impractical as weapons platforms. The goal of most modern weapons is to cause more damage to a target than a weapon takes to replace. The stress of normal operations, alone, make them poor weapons platforms. Combine this with ease of targeting, cost of manufacturing, and their relative vulnerability at joints, and it becomes far more likely that walkers will NEVER bee seen on the battlefield.

Sure, you can throw treads on them... but then they're not GDR's-- they're armor. The fact is, Tanks, Armor, Artillery and Mechanized Infantry will always be a better solution. Also, since you obviously didn't know... Generals don't make these decisions. Politicians do.

Except... none of these really qualify as "wonders."

I would like to see some more future era oriented wonders/tech/buildings/units, so sure this looks like a good place to start in terms of ideas and etc.

One military tech that is actually pretty realistic and future-ish that could be in this game imo is railgun tech. In theory it could provide a leap in non-rocket/missile ballistics what rifling did in early gunpowder era...

I guess why not... Have nothing against sci-fy and fantasy. In fact I love it. It spices up things and with space elevator in the previous game everything is possible. I don't think that many things would make less sense than SE. Wouldn't be much use for me personally though. The game is over pretty much always by the time future era arrives. I might have used GDR's once, but that's it.

I'd love to see the Space Elevator back in the game. The only annoyance I ever had with it in Civ4 was that it's impact on your civ was nowhere near what it would be in real life.

In re your above statement, you might want to rethink that. First, the Space Elevator is the most cost-effective way of getting things into space. Nothing beats it. Once it is built, getting things into orbit is simply the cost of moving them up the Elevator. Second, it generates power. Third, the tech spinoffs just from trying to build it are enormous. Can you say monofilament, or braided carbon nanotubes? Third, moving power generation and industrial facilities into orbit means less pollution on Earth. There are more reasons, I assure you.
