Spaceships? Are you serious, have you seen world budgets lately? The first one with a spaceship is going to be Bronson because no government is going to give money to that. NASA just got a nice slap on the wrist and even they don't have spaceships. And why should they? It so much easier to just blow up this planet rather than find a way to go blow up some other planet.
In the
long run, it's space or death; no other choices possible. We either get people off this planet into viable colonies elsewhere or, sooner or later, a big rock comes along and scours the planet.
Also, what did NASA get penalized for (... just got a nice slap on the wrist ...)?
The Space Elevator is stupid and not cost effective and would be ripped to shreds by our planet, its atmosphere, and any foreign object from space that happened to be in its path.
Actually it's quite cost effective. That's why people are working so hard to make it a reality.
The Cure for Cancer / longevity will be blocked by the government because they need people to die, we have too many. They already have the cure for cancer and aids you dolts.
I saw an actuarial table one time that posited the total elimination of smoking and the assorted deaths caused by same. The result? Average human lifespan would go up by 4 years. Eliminating cancer would do roughly the same. People will still die, it'll just take 5 years longer (on average).
The X-Seed 4000 is only a concept and will die like 99.9% of building concepts. Some Architect thought it up to market their business and look how well it worked, it even got internet-time on a Civ forum of all places. The cost and breadth of that job is utterly unobtainable and pointless.
Arcologies will actually probably be built since we have this great habit of completely and utterly annihilating our own planet and one day that is the only place we'll be able to live, so I will let those alone.
So the X-Seed 4000, which is an arcology, is pointless, but arcologies will be built. So you're complaining about that specific arcology, not arcologies in general?
Giant Death Robots... well, I wish I could knock those off the list but the problem is China has a military and so do we, and so does Russia and India and all of those 13-year-old-boy-generals want the biggest killing toy out there, so inevitably someone will be running around with one of those one day as well.
They'll be knocked off as structurally impractical. One hit to the knee or hip and you can kiss your walking death machine goodbye. What I'd really pay to see is one of them try to stand up after falling down from, for instance, a slippery surface.
If they do put the X-Seed 4000 in as a Wonder, I would really like to see it cover the constructing city's hex and the 6 hexes surrounding it. At a minimum, it needs to totally cover the city hex.
