If anyone is a user of Poly, the upload system is different. Only registered users can upload files and it goes to "apolyton.net/(username)/(filename)", instead of a big uploads folder. They can delete them if they wish, freeing up space. Would it be feasible to do the same here?

Yeah, but how many people would go in and delete their files? And how many users would use it just to store files online?

A good idea, but I'm not sure it would work out.

If you had a fixed limit to each user, then users would be forced to manage their files. Then if someone wanted to upload a large file then there could be a larger upload section where TF or a MOD approves the uploaded files.

Also I would bother to delete old files, at the moment I would have to look through endless lists of files just to find the ones that I had uploaded.

Well Poly does have a limit, I think it's 20MB, and it prevents linking images from its server to other servers, with a "please do not use our bandwidth" thing.

Sounds like an excellent idea. With a limit and preventing liking to other servers.

It seems like a good system. I will look into it.

Hopefully Jelsoft release vB 3.0 soon... It's taking forever. :(

Perhaps TF means that he would rather introduce new things after the board has been updated so that there are no compatability problems...

This could always be one of the benefits if a special member section was introduced for those that pay. They could have a larger allocation and possibly be allowed to link to other sites.

It involves playing with the javascript upload functons, although setting limits may not be totally trivial.

I think vB 3.0 has that kind of upload system built in. I am going install the beta on my machine and try it out tonight...

Yeah well it's been ten months since we've all been awaiting 3.0 to come out (Dec. 2002), and now (Sept. 2003) it's sitll in beta...
