Why forcing people to install STEAM ?

Seconded. When I first joined Steam years ago, I didn't yet have my big internal game drive so I accepted the default install. Now I want all of my games on H: away from my OS drive.

Steam mover was so simple to download and use. It was amazing. And it will also move other games that you didn't get through Steam - meaning my nice tidy game folder on H: is now one happy directory :D

Are you the same shinkicker from over on the 2k forums?????

90% of the bad press about steam comes from pissed off pirates. Period. It is an excellent platform and it and other things like it are the only thing keeping the PC games industry viable. You do all like PC games don't you?

Yu do know it's already pirated don't you? And "supposedly" it runs without steam as well. Now the only question remains...is Civ 5 pirate worthy? It's a personal decision.

Of course, but Steam only releases cut down on piracy substantially. Crow you sound like exactly the type of person I hope ends up in prison. Negative and willing to consider stealing people's property. I hope someone "pirates" something from your house.

I hope you don't think our disagreement was personal for me? It wasn't.

No never :D

I've been around forum boards long enough (I think we both have :mischief:) to know not to let stuff like that get to me.

I have to admit it's a surprise (pleasant one admittedly) to see you touting a tool of Steam. :goodjob:

I decided not to buy Civ 5 as a result of this.

A pity.
First your lose.
Second this post just screams that you want attention.
Third we don't care, have a great civ 5 free life. Im off to conquer the world now, again.

W:aargh:OAH ...You would really want me to go to jail? And for a video game too......But you are making a false claim, you don't even know if I pirated or not, just assuming....maybe I have a friend who pirated it? Yet you are ready to shoot first ask questions later. Politicians are getting away with murder and theft of millions from tax payer coffers and here you are..Punchass Pilot, ready to hang me on the cross for the grave crime of thought theft. Tis you who should be in prison!

Oh and I already had my house "pirated". Maybe it was your work too?

If i "pirate" your TV from your house ,i will have a TV ,you will not.If I pirate the game from you, i will have it and you will have it too.See the difference?

And you'll perpetuate ever more strict / mandatory DRM schemes.

I don't think Steam Mover was developed by Steam - but at any rate, just because I don't care for something doesn't mean I don't embrace reality :)

It's a great tool and it invalidates some of the complaints about Steam. Most Steam users are like me and probably accepted the default download/install paths long ago. It's great to have an option, even if it's a third party utility.

What i hate about steam is that i didnt know it was steam only until a few weeks after i preordered the game. had i known it was steam only i would have bought the damn game though steam. instead i had to wait until the end of the release day for the mail to come. then boy was i sprised to find that even though firaxis has civ 5 on a DVD...the DVD is worthless. After i put the DVD in my computer steam popped up and then told me i would have to wait 2 hours to play civ5 because it was downloading it! whos dumb idea was it to make a BLANK civ5 DVD? it has to be blank because it didnt install the damn game and ive had a steam account for years so there was nothing of use on it. it was really really annoying.

You're ignoring the matter of Intellectual Property rights. If I create something, be it a book or a painting or a piece of software, I'm protected by law from having someone copy it and resell it. They are, in essence, profiting from my labors.

Intellectual Property - Wikipedia

Intellectual property (IP) is a term referring to a number of distinct types of creations of the mind for which property rights are recognized—and the corresponding fields of law.[1] Under intellectual property law, owners are granted certain exclusive rights to a variety of intangible assets, such as musical, literary, and artistic works; discoveries and inventions; and words, phrases, symbols, and designs. Common types of intellectual property include copyrights, trademarks, patents, industrial design rights and trade secrets in some jurisdictions.

Having said that, I'll add that I think the myth being perpetrated by the movie, music and software industries is wrong - that is, that pirated product is "lost profit". The fact is that most people who pirate aren't going to be paying customers, anyway.

But that's a separate issue from the rights of creators to protect their product from intellectual encroachment.
