Even though I completely agree with Hokath about not keeping the term, the historical explanation, which I do not defend of course, has its roots quite deep. It would be more accurate to read what it is than just accusing French speakers of racism.
"Plus Ultra" is a Latin phrase made up looong before My Hero Academia was even a thought, and it's actually the national motto of Spain. After all, the phrase means "further beyond" and the Spanish famously discovered the Americas for Europe by going further beyond the Atlantic Ocean than considered safe.
