Why is there no touchscreen support for this game?

If I understand correctly, Beyond Earth is running on a similar/same engine as civ5? For medical reasons I can only use pen/touch on a tablet. The game doesn't even register the right click of the pen, so this game is impossible for me to play.

I haven't put it on my tablet yet. Maybe someone else with a tablet can verify they have this problem too. What tablet (or touch screen) do you have?

I have a Surface Pro 3. The game seems to show the cursor when hovering with the pen, but not actually register that the cursor is hovering over anything. For example if I am hovering over a resource, the text box does not pop up.

Well I'll try to put it on my Surface Pro 1 in the next day or two, but let me know if you find a solution elsewhere in the meantime.

This thread has some info on getting Civ5 working on a Surface Pro 3 (yes I'm bs661):
Here
Though at this point you may not benefit from this since it's more about getting it to work at the full screen resolution of the Pro3 in non-windowed mode. And they do seem to have updated the graphics system in BE to handle higher resolution better (not perfectly though).
You might try to post the question in that forum though--there are a lot of Pro3 experts there.

Don't despair yet, I bet there is a solution to this, but I understand how frustrating it probably is ;).

SP3 here too.

I've not found it too much of a problem. I don't use the pen but I found holding the finger in one place makes the info popup appear.

Forgot to ask do you have the latest video drivers from Microsoft installed? I think they are a few versions old since MS is usually behind but still should have the latest version you can installed...you can try to use the latest drivers from the intel web site, they will probably work but they are not certified for the Surface Pro until MS releases them and sometimes the Pro will simply revert back to the previous drivers.

Does the pen on the Pro3 have a button like the pro1? If so does it work for the right click? (I know they changed the Pen to a battery model so maybe it doesn't have the button). I'm assuming you know how to hold and release for a right click as Dale says works on his Pro3 (though it took me some time to teach my Mom how to do that :) ).

In Civ5 when you started up you specifically had to chose to enable touch screen gestures-- if that doesn't happen in BE they probably dropped it but right clicking and other pen movements should still work.

I can confirm that they did not implement the touch screen controls from civ v. Kind of disappointing, being able to play on my laptop tablet hybrid in tablet mode was awesome, and made civ portable.

You can still click on things with a touch screen in BE, but you can only click and drag, thats it. That means you can issue movement orders, or scroll through menus anything.

Hoping they patch this functionality in. I do remember it was not initially included with civ v, so perhaps it was just lower priority and they didnt ship it with touch screen controls.

Can anyone move units by holding to right click? It currently pops up menus if I press and hold on something, but will not actually register as a right click. When I get home tonight I will update all my drivers etc. and see if anything changes.

I'll put it on my sp1 tonight, but left click on the unit you want to move, then do the hold and press on the tile you want it to move too, if you don't left click on it first, or lose the focus on that unit, than, I'd think it would behave like you are describing. Anyway if you still have trouble maybe I can get a better idea what's going on once I've got it running on the sp1.

Also Surface Pro 3, and likewise. Discouraging.

Moderator Action: Moved to Ideas & Suggestions

Noooooo!

Civ 5 is the only real game that is playable on tablet. I'm glad I double checked before purchasing this game. I would've been very frustrated.

With all these tablets with laptop processors coming out, you'd think they'd have this implemented day one. I mean it's suppose to be based on Civ5 so the main work should have been in place.

I hope they post a fix soon. If it'll be that easy now.

ps, my tablet is the HP x360 13z. It plays civ5 very well.

Ok my observations after a few minutes play on my SP1.

Hovering: Very sensitive to movement. After a bit of practice I'm usually able to hold my finger or the pen still enough to get a pop up but not always. Only thing I can say is keep trying. It might help to play with some of the Windows settings, I'll try that in a bit.

Right click. Nope does not work on the tablet. To move a unit I have to click on the move mode icon on the left hand side of the screen (it's right next to the crossed swords on the far left), then you can move a unit similar to the way it works in Civ5 on tablet. A little awkward since you have to click on an icon, but not too bad.

Hopefully once they get the initial big bugs and balance issues taken care of they will have time to fix up the tablet interface a bit.

Seems strange this got moved to ideas and suggestions, should really be in tech support, oh well.

Well can't find any windows settings that help. Unfortunately Win 8.x settings are not very versatile (we seem to get fewer and fewer choices as new OSes are introduced in recent years, maybe Win10 well reverse this trend). Also I dug out my original sp1 pen which has a button for right clicking and even that doesn't work, this must be a bug.
