Why, oh Why isnt there a mod for this?

131,044 is the maximum theoretical map size permitted by the engine, not the maximum map size that a mapscript will use. You'd have to make a map that big by hand, unless you find some automated way of making world builder maps.

Can you elaborate ? AFAIK the game engine crash on start for map (script or WB file) bigger than something like 184x94 which is 17,296 tiles.

I read here that 131,044 is the largest possible map size, but I'm thinking you may be right. Read the thread, as an experienced modder you may find something I do not.

Well, the last post in that thread was made 1 month before Civ5 was released, so I think it was comparative speculation from what was known at the time from Civ4 / Civ3.

Gosh and golly, I dont want this thread to die until someone steps up and says, "I can make a mod for this". You would be my hero.

It's really just a matter of copying one file and editing it, as I've detailed in a previous post.

If you really can't do that, I'll post one when I find 5 minutes to do it. But this may not be *soon*, I've got a lot to do ATM.

Have you found 5 minutes yet? Ahem,...I did exactly as I interpreted your post and, lo and behold, it didnt work for me. I even put a map copy in the Steam portion of the game /maps folder as well as the documents one. I am missing something.

I believe there are several gamers here who would cherish such a map/mod so please dont give up on us.

Just peeking in to see if any action toward a mod or a nod to this suggestion. If needed, I can post a play by play about how I interpreted the info in my game to no success.

I am still tinkering with maps and may "get it". If so will post. Still wish for a map script.

try this attachement (save in "\My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\Maps").

launch from the mod menu, select "continent giant" from map list, and huge size...

thank you so much! Really appreciate your knowledge to do such things! I smell a fresh Gigantic game coming on.

For those who would play larger than huge maps, Im just necroing this thread for you to peruse.

Standard is 4,160 tiles.

Large is 6,656 tiles.

As you increase both the width and height of maps, they get truly "huge".

Huge is 10,240 tiles. (It's "almost" like adding an entire Standard map to the Large map!)

It's a bit impractical for a 32-bit application with memory limitations, so even powerful systems will suffer performance hits.

Sirian (the mastermind behind Civ 5's awesome map scripts) even stated so (in a way):

Bigger isn't always better. :)

EDIT: Argh... a necromancer. Got me.
