Surely it's because of I'm a noob, but I don't understand why these cities aren't linked, even though they are very far....

They are either river cities (one also near sea) and, of course, I've already got SAILING

This is also the save (but my game is in italian language and besides I'm not so sure I've uploaded it correctly for the forum)

BTW, would building a Fort and connecting it to Sparta's river by road, connect the two cities?

The point where Sparta's river meets the sea is not visible, and must therefore by either off the north or west sides of the map. There are visible blocks of unexplored coastline between that and the rivermouth at Athens, which will block trade. There may also be barb or AI cities blocking some parts of the coastline or Sparta's river.

Build a road on the hill 2SE of Sparta, and if you have sailing, you'll be linked up.

You know all the extent of the river and of the coastline between the two cities? There is a barb or a non Open border civ city in the way?

Yep, you have to have explored the rest of the coastline (unexplored tiles break the connection just like ice would)... and then you could have a barb city or other unexplored civ blocking your trade route, too.

I'm sorry I didn't say that Sparta's river go on sea to the north.

Anyway, you were right: there was a byzantine ship on the east coast:

It could not be seen by an unit placed on the hill 1W to the mountain!
I opened borders with Giustinian and then the cities were linked.
So the block was in the clockwise way of circumnavigation this island ('cause I discovered that this is an isolated island).

Anyway, I still don't understand one thing:

Before I opened borders with byzantine, Sparta had a trade route with the etiopyan city of Axum, in the south-west of the island in which we are.

So, this route was counterclockwise.

In this way, there are no kind of blocks between the mouth of Sparta’s river (to north) and Athens, as you can see:

And then..... why the cities didn't were linked?!?

The anti-clockwise route is blocked by ice and Zara Yaqob.

I've open borders with Zara, and, over all, if the ice is blocking the route, why Sparta's trading with Axum?!?

I'm more worried about that you have only 2 cities after 110 turns, 1 of them a lightyear away from your capital right in the middle of the Mongol empire
