WHY WE NEED A PTW GOTM... Soon...

Looking at the other thread in this forum on the topic, I wanted to weigh in on this issue with the following points:

1) We should have a seperate PTW GOTM from the "vanilla" GOTM because there are some people who are never going to want to buy PTW and they shouldn't be forced to. At the same time...

2) There has long been a clamour, a desire, in many quarters, for more than one GOTM, and this would create that extra opportunity. People who want to play that much Civ probably already have PTW.

3) I got ready to play this months GOTM (No I have never posted results because in the past I was a chronic reloader and will not post cheated games) but realized that I now have to reinstall 1.29 patch (I had installed Civ3 over and put PTW on top of it so I think if I went to regular Civ3 it would not be patched up). What a hassle. My world is ALL PTW now. I want the chance to compete in that world.

PS-I will be spending the East Coast snow storm on this GOTM, which I expect to lose in early AD years (I'm only just getting competitive on Monarch level...)

Trust us.

Your turn will come soon enough. We have a schedule of games to play as civilizations you may not have played yet under conditions you may not have experienced.

PTW GOTM will come sooner than you realize and if you have played some Civ3 GOTMs at least marginally on task then you will be prepared to play the PTW GOTM as if you at least partially know what you are doing with those new civs as well.

We have partially had this discussion on at least two occassions previously.

A lot is happening "under the hood" so to speak and hopefully you will be able to enjoy all the benefits and fun of the upcoming expansion and changes.

I will post an expanded GOTM schedule with the transition to PTW type games soon. Bear with us all as things transition in the next few weeks.

In the short term, show us what you're made of with some stellar play at whatever game is the game of the day.

EDIT: If you look at the GOTM Archive, you see it says "PTW Civ!" for March 2003. I guess thats not too much of a wait...

You can also feel free to use the Private Message (PM) systems for random exclaimations of grief, joy, and/or disgust.

On the subject of a PTW GOTM, trust me that playing alone and getting spanked by yourself is probably not what you're looking for. You have the great luxury of having 30 to 60 days to hone you game skills before all the high skilled predators that we have trained in the Civ3 GOTM get released to potentially join you in happy PTW land and grind you summarily into a pulp in new and even more painful ways.

Because you're special, I'll even promise you this" If you win a medal in GOTM14 or even place in the top 10, I'll build you your own private version of a GOTM and you can play it in the PTW format even while everyone else is patiently giving me and the other volunteers at least a week or two to get our acts together so we can support your desires in a way that will leave you at least partially confident that we know what we're doing.

I don't believe that your private GOTM offer is valid for everyone that manages to finish in GOTM 14 top 10 is it?
