I read the release features. Nothing said about multiplayer.
Wonder if they have fixed it or if its just at crappy as in civ 5?

Fix the mp part of the game should be a priority... they havent fixed it soon 2 years after the release of civ 5 and if they dont even fix it with this expansion it seems they dont care about the multiplayers of the game....

What do you mean by fixed?

Have you never touched multiplayer?

Multiplayer has a number of issues such as...
1. Connection issues causing resets mid-game, lag, people crashing, people dropping out, and freezing. Your almost always likely to experience this in games.
2. DLC content dividing up people with who they can/ and can't play with. This is a 2010 game not allowing people with DLC to play with those who don't. Games like Company of Heroes(2006) easily allow this by simply just patching in the required content. Those who don't have it purchased just can't use it ingame while those who do can use the content against those players. This easily can be fixed all by just patching in the content for everyone and letting those who pay, use it while everyone just gets to play against it. (Wonders of the Ancient World should also be patched in freely so its not unbalanced to give free wonders to players).
3. No turn based combat which turns into a click fest who ever attacks faster on the next turn. You can essentially lose units without ever getting a chance to attack.
4. AI is even stupider, and there is a lot less interaction with it and less interaction with City States.
5. Imbalances all around. Most of it is also overall game issues but things you see in multiplayer games like spamming cities and not worrying about happiness, massive spam of armies with no penalties other than negative gold which doesn't stop it, etc.

What does G&K need to do that's not being addressed in the patch?

Plus the countless Multiplayer only bugs,

AI unable to interact with you at all for trades (you must approach them),

Also the inability to rejoin multiplayer games without the 30% chance a person crashes the whole game if they rejoin (because of a disconnect they have to rejoin),

A poor system of rejoining (have to be a friend with one of the players in game),

A poor multiplayer lobby interface,

Yep - there are a lot of things that need fixing.

There are certain bugs that have happened to me that I have never taken pictures of but i am sure they have happened to other people:

I.e. A resync [which of course doesn't even exist in singleplayer] sometimes causes you to reload as a civ you were fighting against, and the player you were playing against gets your civ. Any idea how annoying that could be to have your roles reversed randomly (also does this to civs not at war). This is just one of many bugs that I feel like I have never so much as heard mentioned on how it will be fixed

============

Anyways - With multiplayer even though its fun, I have to accept there is a good chance many games won't finish or they will crash.

Multiplayer is dead to me. I was playing with a friend against the ai.

1. No animations?! If I'm playing onlinie with 8 other people yeah i don't want animations. When I'm online with a friend or two I don't mind turns taking a bit longer because of the animations.

2. If you play with ai they are almost non-existant and even more irrational online. The ai never came to me with a deal or anything once. I always had to go to them. They also declared war on me at friendly status and refused peace for the next 1000 years. They didn't even attack me once. They declared war in 500 BC and they still wouldnt even negotiate by the time we go to 1920. "we still have business to settle..............."

3. Constant resetting. I only had a person drop once. The rest of the time the game would basically just freeze then go back to the loading screen then it was fine. This happened a lot.

4. I agree with the DLC thing as well. If you're going to have DLC you can't limit players who don't have the DLC to DLC only games. Some people don't want DLC but if you don't buy the DLC you can say goodbye to online multiplayer because most people online have all the DLC and you can't play with them.

5. Almost complete lack of multiplayer interface. When you click multipllayer from the main menu it simply takes you to a list of games. That's it. Civ 4 had a list of games, lobby chat, a friends list (which ik you really dont need because of steam) and countless other features that are gone from 5. Why would you make an depth and awesome multiplayer for a previous game then completely strip it out in the next game in the series?

6. Save option. I know they added a save option now but why was this not available in release. Obviously multiplayer was simply tacked on really fast and someone forgot to add a save option. This is civilization. Who finishes a game in one single sitting? You could only load from quick saves. *facepalm*

Multiplayer has just been a series of regressions. Although! The good news is I have seen that they are adding in animations and if you dig for articles I've seen a few quotes of them saying that multiplayer has been reworked. Just search Gods and Kings Multiplayer. From the looks of it Gods and Kings looks to revamp the whole game. To me it seems like they just said screw patches for vanilla lets just release an expansion pack that fixes everything that's wrong with the original and make it everything it should have been on release.

they said they were going to fix multiplayer because they adding animations, they adding changes to the mod search engine etc

They didn't say anything "etc" after those two changes. They have also refused to specifically talk about multiplayer forever like they are ignoring it.

Its weird, I read all of those complains and I never have had any of those issues myself in multiplayer.
Disconnects, crashes, bad rejoining, etc. It has always worked very well for me. And I've had tens, probably hundreds of hours of multiplayer. Once even 20 hours continuous without a hitch.

Also I really love the mulitplayer Steam integration, they way how you invites friends is really excellent.

Mind you, I only play with friends, never strangers (too many quitters) and only ones without Windows XP (I noticed one friend had Windows XP and he had issues, when he upgraded those issues were gone).
So I guess that has to do with it.

But shouldn't this thread be somewhere else, I don't see what this has to do with G&K?

agree,
+ Let me add to this lack of pause option.

I've found that you can play with people using DLC you don't have, you just can't utilize the DLC, i.e. can't pick that civ or build the wonders.

Agreed. My biggest problems with the multiplayer turned out to be that Steam issue a few weeks back. Other than that, only the occasional disconnect, which is something I can live with.

And why cant we use custom maps in multiplayer?
Not even in LAN games? :crazyeye:
Whats the point of giving us a world editor if we cant use the maps.

Multiplayer has made significant improvements over the course of the game's lifetime, but it still does have some major issues. Anyone who has played more than the occassional casual game, I think, will have experienced them.

As many have already pointed out, there are some crashing issues for certain players, especially in bigger games. The AI in a multiplayer doesn't interact with you at all...which can make negotiating a fair peace treaty, i.e., difficult, since the AI treats you differently when you approach it than when it approaches you.

I think the biggest problem is the click fest that battles can become in multiplayer. All strategy is removed, since battles revolve more around who can get their unit to attack first. The combat changes may alleve this, as well as turning on animations (which is available in the latest patch), but I truly think the option needs to be available for players to somehow "take turns" during battle. It's too hard to see what the heck is going on and respond when a click fest ensues and units are just disappearing as you select them.

And I agree with Nefliqus that a "Pause" button for turn timer games would be nice for bathroom breaks.
