In the world of tomorrow!!
I have been playing Civ. III since it came out. The problem I have is that on the Diplomacy screen and the Histograph screen, all the choices are at the bottom of the screen (off the tan square & on the map). I've lived with it for more than 6 months. I don't understand why it does it... It isn't supposed to be like that! Wast is weirder is I started a previously saved game and it FIXED ITSELF! I said 'cool' and went with it. I was happier than a pig in the mud! I started the game again later and... you guessed it... it went back to the way it was!!! I tried to get a screen shot but i can't find it. Please help! I'm going nuts over here. Tell me how to get a screen shot & I will show you what I mean. Thanks for the rant. I feel a little better.

for a screenshot, just hit alt-print screen, then go to paint and click edit-paste.

you might have aproblem with fonts... got o the FAQ, I think i remember somehting in it about that problem (section Technical Questions).

Thanks for the info. Here this may help. I tried the 'fonts' problem and my 'puter crashed

Oops! Hope THIS is the shot....

Yes, that screenshot does look like you have trouble with the font thingy.....

Did you remove Lucida Sans font from your windows\fonts directory????? And then got the crash????

I doublechecked and I have 22 types of Lucida fonts and 6 types of Lucida Sans fonts (Oblique, Bold, Typewriter Oblique, etc..) Do I delete all of them (all 6... all 22?)

I had the same problem. For me, it resulted from two different problems.

1) Greater than 255 fonts. Go into your fonts directory (start menu -> run -> fonts) and check how many fonts you have. If it's greater than 255, delete some. This will probably help to speed up your computer a little too.

2) Make sure that the Lucida Sans font is correct. To do this, I deleted all references to it in the fonts directory. Then I copied the font file from the civ3 CD into the directory. (I think the font was in the root directory of the CD.)

Hope that helps!

I fixed it! I only had 67 fonts (don't know why anyone would need 255+); and deleted ALL 6 of the sans fonts see below. Just for couriosity, why would the Lucida Sans font cause this problem? Thanks for all the help. I should be whipped for my outburst...:spank: Ooooh! that's it.

I have over 2000 fonts in my system! The right font can make all the difference when you work with graphic/web design.

yeah, I guess I didn't think of that. I was just thinking of the average computer user. I stand corrected.

This problem have i seen before, if you turn on font smoothing you will get the same problem back. If you right click on an empty area of the screen and select properties, select the appearence tab and press the effects button. There is a drop down box to choose between Standard or Cleartype. I had exactly the same problem with my fonts until i discovered fontsmoothing.

Thanks 'Killer'. I've always enjoyed the game. Now I can enjoy it AND see what I'm doing. Haven't had a problem since (except for those blasted Egyptians ruining all the fun ;) ). I tried the font smoothing too.... didn't work. Thanks all for the help. Gotta go here comes the rampaging hoards again .
