Will the general please stand?

Don't listen to him, Thunderfall! He's high on something!

There's nothing wrong with playing on premade maps? It's easier with random maps because each civ starts on a separate continent (most of the time), so you don't have to worry about a big honkin' land war every century.

I bet you couldn't get a higher score than me on the same map..........

I that a bet that is open for all or does it just apply to Stormerne??
I don't seem to remember a "Euroland" map - does it come with the normal game or is it a map that I can download somewhere??

Shadowdale, it came with my version, (2.7.8 plus Fantastic Worlds) along with a few others, though obviously I can't speak for your version. It is a VERY easy map to get a high score on, for two reasons:
(1) You know the layout before you start, even if you randomise starting positions. Any European who has problems with it must have flunked geography!
(2) The amount of contiguous landmass on the Euro map is HUGE - even larger than real life - making it easy to wage a land war and making it very easy to build lots of good cities with good communication.

Vlad, I accept your challenge, but it is low down on my list of priorities - my own random game and GOTM#2 take higher priority. And I accept it only on one condition: that you accept the counter-challenge of playing from the start position of my own game (King, 7 civs, large random archipelago, restless tribes) - a little like a GOTM.

Lets face it. Everyone knows the maps, made or unmade. Everyone looks. No one can help themselves. So even if it were a random map, it would be the same thing. I think the only map that it is easier to play on is one where the individual tiles were actually placed. Especially unrealistically placed.

Is it the Europe map that you are talking about?? If so why on earth do you call it Euroland??? I remember that map - I thought that it was dead boring!!!
I hate all the maps that come with the game, you already know the geography of them and they generally s*ck!!

I think this tells us more about you than it does about "Everyone".

Believe it or not, I have NEVER cheated a look at a map and then reloaded. I've never even turned on the cheat menu. That would take all the fun out of the game for me.

I agree premade maps should go with the customs in the HOF. (sorry Vlad)

Speak for yourself. Some of us don't look at the map.

Stormerne, let's get it on. Send me the saved game.

I bet most of the random map gamers reload more often than Lefty's had sex. I've noticed all of the games in the HOF with random map have beautifully large land masses. Even when I set the landmass to large, 3/5 times there's thin, stringly continents full of mountains and jungles.

For example, in Shadowdale's King HOF game, the ENTIRE MAP IS GRASSLAND AND PLAINS EXCEPT A HILL AND FOREST HERE AND THERE.

No offense, shadowdale.

OK I've emailed you the game's starting position. You'll have to see what you think of the land mass when (and if) you discover it!

ROFLLLMAO!!!

What a pack of liars!

Ok, I give up, I could never prove it.

Yeah I was speaking for myself, but at least I am honest!

MrLeN

P.S. I should never have said all that. I should have known what the replies would have been. *DoH* Just slaps forehead!

Maybe you're partly right. But what got to us was the sweeping generalisation. I, for one, saw what you said and thought "well it doesn't apply to me, therefore it's not logically true".

But maybe it does apply to some people. Though maybe, by definition, some of the people who actually care about the game and have a sense of honour are grouped here on this forum. And I believe them.

It is very dangerous to question the honour of someone when you don't know their resources.

Hey i thought this topic was about the largest armies, not the HOE (although they do go hand in hand.)

One time i was playing on prince, and i had this HUGE invasion force of Marines, something like 150 and landed them on key points of the land mass the mongols were on.

If you add about 50 helo's (which i did) it is a pure amfibious assult.

yeah i know prince is prince, but it was 1050AD!!

Can you please leave details of the largest army that you recal building. It doesn't have to be specific. Just roughly what type of units you had, roughly how many and what you did with them.

MrLeN

i have built a large army in a one player and had at least 1000 units and the game was still far from over. i am one of the greatest players in the lands.

Okay stormerne, I'm going to check my mail after I post this.

What I hate:
When you have over (I think) 250 of a type of unit, it goes back down to 1 again in the defense advisor thing.

Once, I had about 500 engineers, and it only ONE!!!!! Then I built cities so I had less than 500, and suddenly it said 248. AFter I disbanned most of them, it still said 200.

Vlad when you have that many Engineers don't you use them to change every single tundra/dessert/mountain to grassland/plains ??? I do and that is why there is practically nothing left of those terrain types!!! There once was a pretty large dessert on one of the islands, but not really any tundra!!

But you are right about the land formation!!! When ever I create new maps now there are quite a few small strips of land that often have some stupid terrain type on it!! I don't know if that is because both of my two high score games are originally from Civ2 classic!!!

[This message has been edited by shadowdale (edited March 05, 2001).]

There is a unit limit...I hit it in Red Front by Captain Nemo -had to disband my army to get new and better units just cos the German army was so BIG!

smile.gif

Still kinda won...germany was effectively beaten except that the americans didn't really forfill their side of the invasion.

Shadowdale: you send me that cd you said you were going to? Please
