Have not seen one pop up in the stores yet. I know the day V was released Gamestop had several in stock, called them today and they were pretty clueless.
Am I the only who collects these things just to read them?

I'm watching for one, too. Until it arrives, I'm continuing to enjoy Civ IV. Web pages are fine, but I prefer treeware!

Don't those strategy guides usually come out at the same time their corresponding games are released? I could be wrong but that has been my experience in my last 25 years of computer/video gaming.

Strategy guides are usually available at the game's release, if available. I looked but couldn't find one. Maybe they'll release one after a big expansion when the game is more fleshed out, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I hope so. I just like them! Perhaps they are waiting for a big expansion etc? They did this with Civ V.

The last time i had a strategy guide (and it was a Brady one) it came free with the game as a special release day bundle. It looked amazing and i enjoyed reading it on the way home and while i installed the game but pretty much as soon as i started the game i realised it was already out of date and this was even before the obligatory first day patch.

While i did used to love having a strategy guide that was before the days of the internet when games were released in a finished state as there was no such thing as patches and thus strategy guides were usually useful or at least informative where as with the way games are released these days if the guides aren't out of date on release day as in my previous example they soon become out of date as the paying play testers get hold of the game.

This may seem like a cynical comment about game guides but it is more a disparaging comment on the way games are created and ultimately released these days which has taken away many aspects of gaming which many people will never really get to enjoy such being given a novel as an instruction manual and reading it on the way hope from the game store and then while you wait for the game to install adding to the excitement as you imagine all the joy you will have playing the game.

I think these guides are going to go the way of the dinosaur. With all the wikis, Reddit, YouTube videos, and even this forum now replace the need for such literature.

Exactly, unless you really like having a hard copy book for honestly a number of different reasons, there is no reason to pay for something that simply costs an alt-tab.

Yeah, but all of those things aren't usually available until well after release day. Even now, there isn't a good, fleshed out wiki to look at for Civ VI. Watching YouTube videos take significantly longer than reading a guide. Besides, the guides are just fun to look at and collect. Have you seen the last few Final Fantasy guides? They're fantastic!

I've never used a guide for Civ, though. These games just change too often.
