Will there still be a 22 civs limit per game?

U know so far we got 25 civs (including all DLC's) and with G&K we will get 9 more which means 25+9=34. Very awesome u would say right? but its not that nice since there is a goddamn limit of 22 civs u can play per game. Its a real shame and probably waste of money because I really want to play with all of the 34 civs on a Giant earth map (180x94)!

I read somewhere in this forum that a developer promised they will release the source code or something which makes it possible to configure the DLL's and raise the limit of 22 civs per game. Will this really happen? Or isn't it better they include this ability already in G&K so we dont have to mess with the source code?

Please dear devs dont forget this!!!

Never has a Civilization supported game for all civs, the 12 is the actual limit that is supported by the game. No, i highly doubt they're gonna increase the limit to 34.

I seriously don't get the appeal in there anyway, (probably because my computer is gonna burn with so many civs).

They are not gonna release the source code, they're gonna release the DLLs which permits experienced moders to add custom features (for eample in Civ 4 we had Revolutions)

Not if you play a custom game ;) -> he's right about the technical limit, it's currently 22.

If they change it...that probably depends if someone remembers it :D.

Actually if I remember correctly, Civ III was capable of having all the Civs (31 IIRC) at once in a map. I've done it before in my "Future Era" mod. All 31 Civs no matter what size map.

Yea.. same.. but it's not a default option.

I'm sure in Civ 4, and 5, it is possible to actually increase it, I remember that RoM has a 20+ capability, (with 18 being max by default no mods)

There are 50-civ DLLs out there for IV. As implied in the name though, I imagine access to the DLL would be needed to mod in a simlar feature to V.

For the sake of my Earth map, we can only hope they finally wise up and just make it a default feature.

You have to be careful about supporting so many civilizations on one map...the PC might not be able to handle it.

However, I'm simply referring to "Tiny -> Huge" default settings. There's no reason why a player shouldn't have the option to set this himself. 32 civs should be the maximum. But we never know what's going on behind the scenes.

Yeah, I think the DLL needs to be reworked, so we need to wait at least a few months until the DLL sourcecode comes out.

Although the real problem is, of course, not the amount of simultaneous civs, but if your computer can handle it. I, for one, never play huge, simply because the turn time takes so long, especially in late games.

(And what is this doing in the G&K subforum, shouldn't this thread be in modding or something?)

Mods would like to disagree with you, cuz I remember a certain mod for civ 4 BTS.

you could easily reach 50 civs or more in a single game. It gets particularly violent when one powerful civ collapse and a bunch of smaller civs emerge in its wake. Celtics was winning that one game but they pissed enough people off and collapsed and buncha small new civs took over celts land, half of it away from celts easily.

Long story made short, if you want more civs over the limit, you'll have to mod the game and expand the map more to fit in more countries.

Aka, Make the map bigger, this is the important part or your game will just feel like a huge mess. Oh and mod in so that you can reach the civs so that you won't have a problem like not being able to communicate to them cuz there's so many civs your contact list only can hold up to 22 names etc.

The appeal is having a huge game with much diversity and a grand epicness to it. Sure, that many civs in one game is a hog, but when it works, it can be a lot of fun. (assuming that the diplomacy is working good).

There will be a huge gigantic map 300x250....new map type: Babafingo

Limit is increased to 34+1 (34 civs+ aliens)
