Wimbledon 2009

I had a feeling that Roddick would win the battle of the Andies. He played very well, but I think Fed will win the final.

Federer saving 6 points in a row in that tiebreak...

I can see the stress getting to Roddick now, if he begins to lapse at all on his serve he will lose quickly.

oh my....this is gonna be tight...

Incredible, just incredible. Was it better than Federer-Nadal? I dunno, but it's close.

I think Nadal-Federer was more exciting, but this was still an amazing final to watch.
This one had the wrong winner.

I didn't find it very exciting, seeing that too much depended on the serves. Just think of the number of aces the two had.

When the serve was finally returned properly, some great duels ensued, though; Roddick's ability to place the ball the exact perfect locations time after time just boggles the mind.

If this had been your run of the mill 5-setter I might agree, but the fact that it had three memorable moments (the time it took, Federer's 6 straight wins in the tiebreak, and Roddick holding off Federer 10 times [I think?] in the 5th set) vaults it at least second to the Federer-Nadal match.

The all time record being on the line also helps it. I just hope we can see a repeat at the US Open.

Major props to Roddick. Absolutely great recovery after blowing the second set tie-breaker.

I think it just came down to a staring match and nerves. The one who blinked first would lose. Unfortunately for Roddick he made a pair of bad errors in the 30th game, but overall he played very well. His only problem was that Federer was just a tiny bit better at the end...

It does raise an issue about how the tournament is decided. Its a bit unfair that Roddick always had to come back each time which must have some sort of impact. Would make more sense to alternate with 2 games each on service so that they would have each taken it in turns to serve for the match.

Who gets the first advantage? A two game advantage would be even worse!

I think it was just tiredness in the end. He had a very tough quarter, and then a 4 set (including 2 tie-breaks) in the semi against a very tough opponent. Federer just sailed through the tournament, and, though he's perhaps fitter in the first place, he certainly seemed to have more left in the last two or three games when Roddick was just about all out.

That has always being the case for Tennis and the final set. It is much better than the lottery of a Tiebreaker.

Plus Roddick had to lose 15-20 lbs just to be in the shape that he is... so he seemed to be losing steam quickly at the end.

Presumably at 6-6 Roddick would have had the next service and then Federer would have had the next two and then switching back to Roddick so at that point of Federer's next service it would be 9-8.
