Is Civ IV Complete fully compatible with Windows 7? I haven't seen this officially proclaimed anywhere. I have no problems running Civ IV Complete on my Vista machine but I just want to make sure it is compatible on Win 7 before pulling the trigger.

I'm running it fine on Windows 7 64bit. I'm sure it would run just as fine on the 32bit version.

I've been playing that edition on 32 bit for the past month or so, only one glitch so far - I don't appear to be very good ;).

As far as I can tell, 7 will run anything that Vista runs, only without the usual endless waiting.

Been running Civ on complete max settings on windows 7 32bit, and no problems at all.

Just got windows 7 yesterday, had to make sure Civ was able to run! Had to!

Had no problems at all. :goodjob:

On my laptop (Lenovo T61) it runs better under Windows 7 than under Vista. Most notcable with between turn speed and the wonder movies. Under Vista these movies were running ...eh what's the word.. interrupted by delays, scipping parts. And under Win7 they play smoothly again.

So go for it.

Autorun starts fine, I click the "Install" to begin and get the following message.

Error Code: -5004 : 0x80070002
Error Information:

PAPP:Sid Meier's Civilization 4

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and tried various other compatibility options (Vista with and without service packs, etc.) no luck.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I was googling the wrong part of the error apparently.

I found the solution and it's an Installshield issue. Simply delete the Installshield folder (or rename if you're worried), found under \Program Files (x86)\Common files, then restart and away you go.

I'm running BTS in Win 7 RC with no problems so far. Well...kind of..I'm also running BAT 2.0 mod w/BUG 4.1 upgrade. I have 4 GB memory (OS only uses 3.5 GB due to it being 32 bit) and have a ATI 4870 w/1GB memory. My proc is an E6400 tweaked to 3.2 GHz. The only problem I've run into is the Memory Allocation Failure (MAF). The research I've done shows that its partially due to the huge maps I'm running, memory leaks in the game, and running my graphic settings at full tillt ahead. My saves are ~1200k which is almost double the standard save I believe. What this means is that about mid-game my 11 Civ, Fractal, Marathon game has to be rebooted approx. 24 mins. If I wanted to tone down my graphics I probably won't have as much a problem but I like the eye candy.

wait, what

I believe this is because it was running in the XP SP3 compatibility mode, when I tried it with Vista Compatibility it said "@ Vista SP2" basically.

Most importantly, if you get this error, it's in InstallShield issue, not Win7 or Civ4

I just upgraded from vista to windows 7 - civ 4 works fine (as far as I can tell) but the mouse pointer is absent. I've tried the compatibility troubleshooter and I've uninstalled and reloaded several times. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I just tried Civ4 in Windows 7 and I have the same problem. I actually have a dual monitor set up and when I move the mouse over to the second monitor the old arrow mouse cursor appears but when I move it back to civ, the mouse is invisible.

I have the 'mouse is invisible-bug' sometimes when I try to change 1 little thing in XML files or just change something in the civ directory.
But not in normal games

I also lost my mouse cursor when I put civilization 4 gold edition on my windows 7 PC
If anyone has a fix Please help I would love to get my game going again !!!

I'm on W7 64 bit got the game a few days ago and only 2 problems so far.

First was the patch not installing which was fixed easily by running in Administrator. Second the cursor will glitch sometimes, it may be due to my dual monitors, but can be fixed by either moving the cursor onto the second monitor (can only touch the edge) or alt tabbing. Isn't really a problem though, seeing as the game is turn based. :P

Edit: What happens to the cursor is the button changing to some weird looking line.

I'm running Windows 7 RC1 with Civ IV running in windowed mode, no cursor glitch, for what it's worth.

Did you ever find a fix for this mouse cursor not working problem?

Don't have this problem either on Win7 x64 (Civ4 + BTS). Might be an idea to post it in the bug or technical support forum? Personally, I'd probably try using a different mouse pointer first though.

Unfortunately, I don't have Warlords but on BTS you'd go to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Assets\res\cursors
and backup the mouse pointers there to some place safe. Now replace them with some of your own, or copy the ones you need (pointer.ani & waiting.ani) from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\res\Cursors

Damn, now I can not find the thread I'm looking for!

I had a problem with the mouse cursor disappearing (Civ IV, Windows 7) and somebody here recommended turning off "mouse trails". It worked and I wanted to thank the person in the thread they posted this advice but now I can't find it!
