Just for the heck of it I'm installing Civ3 on Windows 8 64-bit.

I was looking away while installing vanilla Civ3, and it crashed and rebooted at the end of the install, but I don't know if it was a Civ3 crash or due to something else going on, like it being on an old rickety machine and me having opened all the apps to see what they look like.

After the reboot Civ3 started and played just fine. Installing Conquests now...

I'm installing to an alternate folder C:\Users\Public\Games\CivIII as I've recommended here a few times for Win7 and Vista.

By the way, I can't read the forums from Win8 yet because they get stuck on one of the ads (I win something for Sept 15, yay me), and I can't figure out how to navigate away from the ad. Seriously, so far I have to use task manager to end IE to do anything else but claim my iPad or whatever I "won".

Installed the Conquests 1.00 CD with no issues and then the 1.22f patch. It plays fine, just making some random moves and cycling through the adviser screens.

Interestingly I can't use the built-in snipping tool to grab a shot of the launch interface since it switches to a desktop whenever I run the app. So I installed SSA2 and took the screenshots.

That big green screen is what you get instead of a start menu when you use the windows button or what was the start button / windows orb in previous versions. I'm not sure why the icons don't show correctly for Conquests. Those tiles were created when I installed the game.

Of course on the first run my screen resized to 1024x768, and then I added KeepRes=1 to conquests.ini to get the resolution in these screenshots.
