WIP: Umbarra (Aborigini) Leader Head

ARGH! It's like they use a freaking torched earth method for art creation... it's virtually impossible to disect because they destroy all the tangible aspects of the bones... how'm I supposed to jerry-rig a model if I can't use the bones?

This is frustrating.

If anyone, with more experience in this than I, wants to... I'll provide the model and you can check it out and give me your suggestions on what I need to do to get this to work.

Once we cross this barrier, it'll be so easy to make new leaderheads...

p.s. I am making some headway... I've managed to get the model to show up in NifSkope :)

I didn't made model of leaderhead...
but i was working on units animation (without great succes with custom animations too (maybe except nebelwerfer animations))

when you load unit there are different dummies wich control sounds, animations, effects
also they are are dummies (the square boxes wich well skinned moves the mechanical parts) and bones (wich moves non-mechanical units)

the animatoin is made in sequention (i suggest you'll load example file from here http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=159481 ) and MD dummy (connected with script) knows how to split it to parts.

read documentation placed here to know how to do that for units (i think leaders should work similliar way): http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=159481,
you should check also the tutorial by sharick too - http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=184327 - for me this tut was far much more understandable than this one created by firaxis

That was some helpful stuff. I had seen the example files and everything, but everything else was new and helped me move forward a bit. Thanks.

I've started a thread out in the main Creation/Customization forum begging for help from anyone/everyone. Hopefully I'll get some hits.

First of all, great work so far Firehazurd, keep it up.

Just a note on political-correctness. the term "aborigine" isn't. :) I'm pretty sure the term aboriginal is preferred, or indiginous (ignore the fact that all of these are generic terms for any native peoples :D). don't ask me why. but yeah. just a thought.

You could use "native australians". The different groups, despite being different groups, functioned in very similar ways, if i remember my primary schooling correctly. I'm sure it would be much more apt than "native americans", in any case.

uhm. good question. I spent a semester studying modern aboriginal theatre last year, so i'm sure aboriginal is preferred. but as for why 'aborigine' isn't favoured anymore... I guess it's just become a derogative term over our short history *shrugs*. How do any of those words get their meaning? :)

I think "Native Australia" would be the most apt term.

EDIT: This is just a ps. I'm new to forums. Sniperrabbit bumped. what's that? :D:D:D

That leaderhead was one of the best leaderheads that's not created by Firaxis Games I've ever seen. Good job!

I'm sending some messages to kipkuhmi who apparently managed to create a unique leaderhead... maybe he can shed some light on the issue :D

The process isn't secret. Ploeper created a unique LH for FFH Age of Ice scenario (but the LH was in fact only a copy of the units, and the anim was a unit anim so I wasn't as pretty as a real LH, but the method worked). Refar and I have also some LH from scratch in our plans.

It has been, admittedly, a while since I worked on this. But I remember following your tutorial and hitting a dead end. I'll have to run through it again since it's been so long.

Have you actually produced a unique, from scratch leaderhead using your method?

Like I said, it wasn't pretty but the Mulcarn LH from Age of Ice is made from scratch (but I'm not the author, it's a unit made from Sezereth that Ploeper converted into a LH). I thought you've already managed to create a custom LH with Richelieu ?

If there isn't more than one Richelieu then I think you're probably refering to mine.

Of course, if anyone has a question about making LHs work in Civ IV I would be glad to help if possible. I think I've come pretty far. Of course, I have to warm it up again, because it has been some time that I haven't been working on it.

The one thing I still have to figure out is how to illuminate the person correctly. With Richelieu I used a work around by baking the shadows into the texture.
