i like france because of the musketman uu. it is the first unit besides rifleman that can actually punch a hole in an enemy cavalry stack. with 5 defense and defensive bombard, it is quite good at taking out enemies, especially outdated longbowman, knights, and medieval infantry.

England because they're commercial, which means less corruption, and seafaring, so they can move out into overseas expansion faster, thus creating big empires over vast continents....or miniscule islands. I also like the MoW because it's a bit better than other ships at that time...and it's a pain to constantly lose friggates to galleons(I think that's how it goes) before Ironclads. THis way, I can control the seas if I want to.

I also like the Byzantines because the scientific trait helps with the libraries/universities and some of the bigger wonders. and the free tech and fun UU don't hurt

Finally, there is La France, the only civ with the "passive" traits(they don't have an effect directly on any one area, but one on everything within the city). I can have low corruption, great defensive UU at a good time, and it's a lot of fun with the metros...

I vote random! I like them all. It really depends on the map type and the start. I just had an explosive game with the Inca for example. I just out settled the Zulu next door, then procceded the walk all over them, the Indians, Aztecs, and the Japanese. I even initiated my golden age in the 1700s with my UU! Just in time to invade the next continent. I all depends.

I like celts because they were sattled on Balkan before my civilization.

Byzantines. Dromon kicks butt and scientific gives better libraries and seafaring gives more $. On Pangaea, which I do not play, though, I would pick Iroquios.

On this poll, Germany. Overall, I also like the Zulu. They just bring out the warmongerer in me.(Those from GCF will know what I'm talking about ;))

I like China. Their industrious trait helps get my civ established and their rider UU comes at a good time for both fighting and having a golden age.

I like France because you aren't stuck with doing things the way your civ is designed to. You can be a sea power, but you don't have to be, you can be a culture builder, but it's not the only way to go. You can build a large empire, or just be a big builder, whichever. Basically you overall just have a buff with any goal that you decide to go on.

And the Musketeer is very good against pretty much any other medievil unit or ancient unit, it's even still good in a good part of the industrial age!

The only semi-bad part about them is they don't get any cheap buildings, and I guess the best way to describe them is being 'above average at everything' but 'not great in anything'.

Germany.
They get a lot of leaders, both military and scientific. Cheap libraries and barracks and they have a very, very good UU. I don't fight a lot in Civ until the industrial age. And then there aren't many civs left with a UU. Steamroll over your enemies with a blitzkrieg taking enemy lot's of enemy cities in the turn you DOWed.

* Plus I like their colour
** And when you are Germany you can't have them next to you while being a builder civ like Holland or Babylon.

Nobody yet said Vikings but they certainly are mine!! Their starting conditions are a little weird but once you get beserks, the game is over for the AI's.

But according to the poll, there are no vikings hrmph! :scan:

So I would say the Celts on continents is the best way to go apart from the vikings who can take anything.

As you can tell, I'm a big time warmongerer
