Wiz01- My first SG (Regent)

I would recommend we road our way into babylon territory as the jungle and mountains slow us down tremendously. Also the need for settlers.

So, here's the turnlog:

Preturn: Check everything to see what's going on. And everything seems good. :goodjob: Ooh, we lead in points clearly! Man, who built those european pillars there into our palace? Press enter.

760AD: Move troops toward Babylon. Our sam kills bowman, becomes elite! :)

IBT: Lepzig sam, sam. Hakodate sam, sam. Ise sam, sam.

IBT: Mpondo worker, worker.

810AD: Move units toward Babylon. Building a road to link babylonian countries and Japan. Attack spear in Sippar. Our sam wins, but is down to 1 hp. Attack bowman, retreat. Attack it again. Now we win, nd capture the city with 2 slaves!

IBT: Zimbabwe Market, sam. Satsuma bank, settler. Nara agua, lib. Izumo sam, sam. Samarra riots. Toyama sam, sam. Bizen catapault, col.

820AD: Units continue the travel & roadbuilding. Sword kills a knight. Sword is killed by a knight. Ditto. Knight retreats. Knight is killed by a sam. Edo switched from palace to Copernicu's. Check deals. Egypt has gunpowder, but it comes in 1 turn, so no use to trade.

IBT: Our sword kills a bab bowman. Babylonian knights approach Sippar. Egypt would want WM for WM + Economics. I refuse. We research Gunpowder. Start Chemistry, due in 7. Lepzig sam, sam.

830AD: We hav etwo resources of saltpeter in our lands, but neither of them is connected. Attack Lagash. Protected by 2 spears, easy target. We capture it & get one slave. Our brave sams get easily rid of the offending knights near Sippar. Change sci rate to 70% to get chemistry in 4.

Summary:

Treasury 5666gp, -13gpt.
34(!)Samurais.
13 Swordmen.
34 Workers.

:yeah:

Oh, and sorry for no screens, I'm not really into uploading big pics with my modem connection...

One minor comment, I picked astro so as to get navigation to trade lux with other continent to fight WW. I am wondering the purpose of researching gunpowder.

When on offensive, it is usually not a good idea to research defensive unit techs. It makes the tech more easily researched by AI and/or traded and we may end up facing the musketmen ourselves. Hence, I didn't pick gunpowder after Econ.

In our particular case, I don't think it is really a concern so this is just something to keep at the back of your head.

I recommend we research navigation as soon as possible. We are gaining little from gunpowder and chemistry, unless we are pushing for MT.

Iziba was empty because I removed the elite war from garrison duties....sorry about that.

Got it, will play tonight & post at the latest tomorrow morning.

Oh, I didn't really know that about navigation...sorry. :( But I'll try to remember. :)

Remember also, that I'm a newbie to regent level so I'm no tactican...

it's actually a matter of preference. We can either go for MT for cavalry or Navigation for trade. Since the civs on our continent are relatively weak, the drive for cavalry may not be necessary. Instead because we can get no more new luxuries on our continent, navigation can actually give us more advantage (my opinion). The important thing is to avoid researching defensive unit techs if you dun really need them, as it makes it easier for AI to get them.

As I said b4, in our case, it doesn't really matter.

 I was about to reply with a "where's the save" quote, until I saw that the url was listed in the quote.

That's weird...........hmmm..............it took me like 5 mins to find the smily.:crazyeye:

Playing now & will post shortly

Maybe I'm slowing up this game by posting weird url's converted into smilies?;)

I thought I wrote "The save:" before the smilie...:undecide:

Don't sweat it, it's definatly me. I got dragged off to a party last night.

Finishing up the turns now.

I'm politicin', I know.

I'm eating dinner, & will post after I eat. Here's a preview for your patience:
2 wonders during my turn.
Babs wiped out.
Preparing to take on Aztecs.

Freakin weird, I just got hit with a bug in the game that's costing us a chance for a Wonder.

My choice is either keep our rep intact or have a shot at Smith's. Not a very hard choice, but it's a choice I shouldn't have to make. I should be able to do both, but...........

To make a long story short: Check out the Newbie questions in General Discussion forum for a more detailed log.

Will be posting shortly, & we're out a wonder. But more importantly this bug could have dramatic consequences later in the game.

 what would I do without you gorm?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here goes! Now you'll see what too me so long!

Pre-turn: MM a bunch of cities(like 30). Rush a bunch of temples in our newly conquered land to fill up the gaps & prevent anyone else from settling in “our land”.
Bump research down to 60%, still getting Chemistry in 2, but now at 62gpt.
Trade Incense, WM, & renewed peace to Egypt for 173g & 5gpt. They’re on the other continent, I don’t see us attacking them in under 20 turns.
Trade Incense, Silks, 25gpt, 10g, & renewed peace to China for gems. This will drastically improve our happiness & while it’s a huge price to pay, will ensure WLTK across our whole empire.
Our wines/silks ivory trade with India was set to expire next turn, I throw in peace & 298g to renew it.
Abe is broke but has spices, we don’t need it with our newly acquired luxs & the dyes we’re about to get. Goodbye!
We have 7 turns left on our ROP with Monty, I don’t trade anything with him since he is the likely next target.

Settle Izumi, it brings us dyes.
Nothing but shiny happy people in all our connected/marketed cities.
Rush a market in Sapparo.

IT- Elite redlined sam is killed.
Watch as our entire nation starts a giant fireworks display.
With all the troops we have & all the Sams about to be built in the next couple turns I’m gonna start moving towards infrastructure.
Isandhlwana: sam>worker
Yokohama: worker>aque
Nagoya: sam> library
Akkad: temple>aqueduct
Munich: settler>aque
Samarra: temple>aque
Sapporo: market>worker
Lagsh: temple>aque

1- Sam kills longbow, -1hp.
Elite sam kills spear guarding Nineveh, -1hp.gain 2 slaves & start on temple.
Vet sam kills spear guarding Ahsur, -3hp & promotes. No resistors, starts & will rush a temple next turn.

IT- Wounded vet sam is killed by knight, -2hp.
Learn Chemistry. I know gorm is gonna freak, but with the enormous land gain we have & how much improvements we need even in our core cities I start on Printing press with Democracy coming next. We need that 50% speed bonus to workers BAD. PP due in 4 at 197gpt, that’s almost half of what I’m spending rushing buildings per turn.

Build some units, order up some more. More improvements ordered up.

2- Sword flawlessly kills redlined knight.
Vet sam kills pike in Eridu, is yellowed in process.

IT- More built Sams/temples, workers courts & a couple Sams ordered up.

3- Elite Sam kills a pikeman in Elippi, -2hp &…………*cue sound of trumpets* …………

Fujiwara emerges from the battle. Now what to do with the leader?? First we’re building Copernicus’s in a terrible city for it(Edo only 36 gold a turn total produced). 4 Civs have started on Leo’s & 1 on Cop’s.
Switch Edo to palace, then change Osaka to Copernicus’s(46 gold total produced but will improve with a courthouse)- due in 2. Change Edo to Smith’s- due in 16. What I’m most likely to do is switch the 2 cities(Tokyo-Leo’s due in 11), so Smith’s will be do in 11 in Tokyo, then rush Leo’s in Edo. Since non of the AI have Economics this will break the AI cascade & guarantee we can get Smith’s building it without rushing(in about 10 turns).
Fujiwara starts heading back to our core(will arrive in 5 turns).

Reg sam kills spear in Ellipi, -1hp & takes the city(no resistors) which starts on a temple(surprise surprise!).
Vet sam kills pike in Ur, -2hp.
Vet sam kills spear in Ur, -1hp.
Vet sam retreats from bowman, without scratching it.
Vet sam gets revenge on the bowman, -1hp. Captures Ur with 1 resistor & drumroll please…….. starts on a temple.

IT-Biz wants a ROP. HA!!

4- Our galley sinks Bab galley, flawlessly & promotes to Vet. Naval warfare baby!!
Vet sam kills spear, -1hp. Takes Kish with 2 resistors & a slave.
Elite sam kills pike in Eridu.(as much as I hate attacking with Elites when you already have a leader, I had to get rid of that pike without losing a unit.)
Vet sam kills spear, -2hp but promotes. Captures Eridu(2 resistors & 1 slave). I don’t think I have to say what it builds.

IT- Vet sam fends off attack against longbow, -3hp & promotes.
Buildings, workers, & more buildings.
Complete Copernicus’s Observatory in Osaka.:D

5- Egypt starts Smith’s forcing the cascade on. Doh!! On to plan B.
Switch Edo to University(from Smiths)- due in 1.
Switch Tokyo to Smith’s(from Leo’s)- due in 9.
Rush Leo’s in Babylon. I really wanted to get him back to our core, but Babylon is an interior city that has no chance of falling any time in the near future.
Elite Sam kills spear defending Urak, -2 hp……………. And who’s the man?? Another leader on my first attack after using Fuji![dance] Oh, & he also takes Urak, +1 slave.
What to do with this leader? Not really a question if you ask me. There’s nothing really to rush: we’ll get Smith’s regardless. Since we need a victorious army for a bunch of small wonders & the upcoming Military Academy, I form an and will load our 2 Elite* sams & a vet.

Wow! I’ve never seen this happen when not going for a 40 turn gambit. We have so close in research that we can put 1 scientist into Printing Press & still get it in 1 turn.

IT- Learn Printing Press. Start on Democracy, due in 4 at –55gpt.
Complete Leonardo’s Workshop!
Mao, Cleo, & Abe all cascade to Smith’s, Cleo must have traded Economics during her turn. Time for some recon work.

6- Investigation of Heliopolis: due in 23.
Shanghi: due in 26.
New York: due in 3.
That is my bad guys, I guess I should have rushed Smith’s with the last leader. I didn’t think Cleo would give Economics away for free & everyone else is pretty much broke. Hell I’d trade Leo’s for Smith’s without blinking an eye right now.
*This is the point where any other time since New York is on the Chinese/American border & we don’t have any trades going on with America, I’d declare war on Abe & drag Mao into it with the hopes that they’d take or raze New York in the next 3 turns. But unfortunately that’s where I happened upon the weirdest bug I’ve ever seen. If you want to check out the bug it’s posted in the General Discussion/Newbie Questions with the save. Basically we have to suck it up & lose a chance at Smith’s if we want to keep our rep intact.*
I plan on changing Smith’s to the palace when Abe completes it & pre-building for Newton’s.
Elite sam retreats from spear guarding their last city, taking only 1 hp off him.
Elite sam kills spear, -4hp.
Vet sam kills spear, leaving them only with a longbow guarding their last city.
Found Omi, blocking off the Indians from expanding.
Next turn our ROP ends with the Aztecs. *cue evil laugh*

IT- zzz

7- This game keeps getting weirder, now theirs only a worker in the last city. At first I thought they stuck it & a settler on a boat, but no. I waltz into the now undefended city & wipe out the Babs. Ummm OK.
Our trades end it Monty, that’s bad news for him. Declare war.
Vet sam retreats from spear in Texcoco, -1hp off spear.
Vet sam kills spear, -1hp.
Vet sam kills wounded spear. Takes Texcoco & promotes. No resistors!! They love us, they really love us!
Vet sam kills the spear that’s been wandering around in our territory. We gain 2 slaves from the settler.
Elite sword retreats Jag, -2hp.
Elite sam kills knight defending Tezinzatenta, -2hp.
Elite sam kills spear in Tinzzttentze. We take Tzintzuntzen. No, I’m not leader fishing. Whatever makes you think that??;)

IT- zzzz

8- Elite sam kills wounded Jag.
Vet sam retreated from spear in Tenochtilian, -2 to spear.
Not much else, the Aztec land is a lot of jungles & mtns so the going is slow with our sams.

IT- Abe completes Smith’s. If there was a giant boot stepping on a bug smiley I’d be all over it.

9- Vet sam kills spear in Malcaco, -1hp.
Vet sam is killed by spear. –1 to the spear.
Vet sam kills spear, -3hp. Captures Malinalco: 1 resistor.
Vet sam retreated by longbow, -1 to the longbow.
Elite sam kills spear in Teconchtilian, -2.
Vet sam kills spear, -3hp. Takes Teconchtilian
Vet sam kills horse, -2.

IT- Learn Democracy. Start on Physics(with Theory of Gravity set on queue for Wonder), due in 4 at 48gpt.

10- Vet sam kills spear, promotes.
Vet sam kills longbow, promotes & takes Teotihuacan.
Trade Democracy for:
India-82gpt & 116g
Egypt- 43gpt & 96g
Abe- 41gpt & 51g
This takes all the AI’s gpt & available gold.

**End of Turn Report**
*Palace being built in Tokyo, needs Theory so we can build Einstein’s there.
*I left you in great shape to take out the Aztecs in about 6-7 turns, there’s currently about 20+ sams marching through their territory.
*DON’T wipe out the Aztecs until you’ve won at least 1 battle with our Army.
*I left the Republic vs Democracy decision to the next person. Enjoy!!:p

:ninja: <----- For Wizard

Oh, I forgot something in in my end of turn report

I currently have our cities set up so there isn't a single unhappy person(well 1 but a market will be built there next turn). This is so we'll get the benifits of WLTK across the nation.
